Why is hal lindsey still in business?

Even though I don't share them, I try to have tolerance for the beliefs of religious people...I really do. But when people tell me that the reason they believe the return of Jesus Christ is at hand, is because of commentary they heard watching Hal...

Lindsey's online reports, I can't help myself.

How can this quack even show his face in public? Why do people still think his opinions are worth a crap stain on a piece of toilet paper? Is it because of the many books he's written, predicting the Apocalypse in just about every decade from the 1970's to the 2040's? Maybe it's his comical views that Russia, China, the Arab League, and the EU are all somehow mentioned in the Biblical books of Daniel and Revelations. Or maybe the reason Hal Lindsey is still considered a credible source is because of his keen reasoning that the Pope, or maybe Obama, or maybe Boutros Boutros Ghali, are all candidates for the position of anti-Christ.

Perhaps someone who is of the Christian faith can explain Hal Lindsay's perennial appeal to me, and why he is still seen as a prophecy expert after all of his predictions have failed miserably. I really would like to know...

Hi fau. There are many christians like the last poster 'warmheart' who will say that Hal Lindsey is just preacing what the bible teaches. Its simply not true but believing that the world system will end very shortly provides an escapism for many people who dont want to grow up in the Christian faith. Also fear not, the vast majority of christians including protestants, catholics, orthodox do not believe in this novel approach to eschatology (pre trib secret rapture dispensational premil) which did not exist before 1830 (premill did but not all the rest of it).

The reason Hal is still in business writing scare stuff is also for the same reason the nightly news still is in business: fear sells. People (religious or not) have a morbid fascination with the bad stuff of life. Its-the drive-slow-by-the-car-accident-so-you-can-rubberneck syndrome.

I am a Christian and like many do NOT believe the stuff that Mr Lindsey says because it is NOT in the bible. (yes I know Ill get dispensationalists after this posting cursing me and telling me to 'read my bible' which I already do IN GREEK and HEBREW thank you very much but they feel all the numbers and passages piled on top of each other is somesort of proof that cannot be shown to be false). The best remedy is the book Taking A second look at the second coming which goes LINE BY LINE of hal's books and shows how its not in the bible as Hal claims. The author goes into detail more than I could here.

Oh by the way you mention EU no? The dispensational CURRENT view is that the antichrist will come from Babylon/Iran as LeHaye says --EU as the birthplace of the antichrist isnt as sure anymore. Trust me tomorrow it will be Afghanistan or maybe Brooklyn. oy vey.

He's just repeating what the Bible has said. No one knows the precise moment the Lord will return. He wants everyone to have their bags packed.
