The answer to this question is simple.
People make fun of what they do not understand.
Or better yet what they do not feel they fit into.
The true question my friend should be why do you care what others think, or say?
It should be there problem not yours.
You should never let what others say or do effect you.
These statements are not focused at you just general statments.
I hope this helped in some way.
Mostly I think it has to do with intelligence and confidence. People who lack either of the two tend to belittle things or make fun of things that they don't understand or that they don't have. Having said that, a lot of people are so wrapped up in themselves, their social scenes, their work, school, etc. that they don't take time to really understand the people around them. They look at differences in people and poke fun instead of trying to understand why someone is different. For example, say someone dresses a little more hargardly, dirty clothes, may not have taken a bath, etc. to the average joe this person may be someone to laugh at, but really you aren't looking at the whole scene. That person may have family problems, heath problems, money problems etc. that don't allow them the same opportunities or lifestyle that you enjoy.
I think it's better before you make fun of someone to think about why they may be the way they are. After realizing other people aren't play things you might find that its more enjoyable to help other people rather than make fun of them.
Here's a question I'd like to get an answer to. Some people at work were ranking on this guy because he's kind of a sniveling as*hole. They were just poking at the way he talks, laughs, etc. I don't care for this person, but I said that's just the way he is. We're all different and I didn't like getting involved in that sort of talk. I'm not usual, either, so I know the feeling of not being understood. Like a month later, I hear the same guy talking to some people about why the other people I know spread rumors like what they were saying. Then I heard them telling him things I would say in response to how they were acting. I heard that he heard me too. The other day, I heard this guy who everyone was ranking on, mocking things I say. Saying that I'm too righteous or something. Am I crazy or is this stupid a** now making fun of me with others? What the hell?

Why do people make fun of people with problems?
It happened in a post about emos, some do have serious problems and all the people can do is say they are messed up, but they say it worse, and call emos dykes. It's not right. Other then that, why do people just plain out make fun of people.
