Why do people worry so much about how they look?

sometimes I wonder why people worry so much about how the look.
Someone once said beauty is only skin deep..
and thats so true.
people need to chill and stop worrying about what others think of them.
all that matters is what you think of yourself...

could someone please tell me what the big deal is about image?...
I just don't get it.

well some people dont want to be mugged you know cause some gangs mug you cause they dont like your face or something (I've been their before dam mexicans) but most people want to get dates its better to see the girl your dating is hot insted of a fat blob who will kill you if they get on top.

I doubt that will happen...

People will ALWAYS tend to place 'vanity before sanity' as long as the media keeps given a false image of what 'beauty' is...

It's natural and Healthy for anyone to want to look good - all have a need to be accepted and that's a big part of it - I think if you chipped one of your front teeth off at a 45 degree angle, you'd have it repaired asap (Looks).

Many people want to look good so they will get attenchon (I spell pretty bad sorry if you cant read it) or they think they don't look good enough and have to look better or...

becuse in reality people judge you on the way you look...I used to think that beauty is only skin deep but I dont anymore..I tried to get a part in a ballroom dancing thing and they told me I wasnt pretty enough..the world is just cruel that way.

I dont think its cause they wont look like other people..

sorry what? clearly you care what you look like as you r wearing makeup in your pics. if you didnt then you wouldnt. so whats the big deal? its to impress people, look good,!!!

people think that looking good makes you happy.

and it really doesn't.

some people figure this out, but most seem like they don't.

its for self asteem. makes you feel better, more outgoing. im sorry but there is nothing wrong with wanting to look good. and looking good makes ME happy and im sure many others, its a personal thing, do whatever you want that makes you happy!!! x

Nothing wrong with taking care of yourself and being hygienic.
Its just when people go overboard when its an issue.
Plus, people feel comfortable when they know they look hot.
To each his own.
They probably sit there wondering how some girls can NOT care about their personal appaearance at all.

well, little sis, we all care about what we look like, clearly you do also. But the thing we can remember is to carry a humble heart and practice it by leading an example and inspiring others to be like us through that. You are a pretty girl and very confident, not everyone was raised to think that way or yet not everyone is naturally beautiful, heck...some people can't even look others in the eye because they don't even know how to be social. Bring out the best and see the positive in everyone and everyone will see your best and see you as someone they want to be like. Try not to worry about others esteem. they have to know that for themselves.
