What works best for tear stains for maltese/maltipoo dogs?

Denver has been having tear staining problem since I got him at 8 weeks. Since then, it never got any better, even through I have tried/been doing for him: cleaning his stains 3-4 times a day, adding a full-spoon of cranberry juice into his drinking water, and trim the hair around his eyes, and lastly, I brought a product called Angel Eyes by PetCo, which is a liquit/soap to clean the tear stain. any new advice that I could try??? thank you for your advice/ answer.

BEST THING I HAVE FOUND FOR A FRIENDS FAWN COLOR CHIHUAHUA WHO HAS VERY DARK EYE STAINS IS CALLED ANGEL EYES. IT IS A BIT PRICY BUT WORKS THE FIRST TIME APPLICATED. ILL SEND YOU THE PAGE AND YES IT COULD BE A EYE INFECTION BUT MOST LIKLY IT ISNT. DO HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR YOU THOUGH? DO YOU FEED YOUR DOGGY WATER TAP WATER FROM THE FAUCET? THIS COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE TEAR STAINS. IF YOU HAVE YOUR DOGGY DRINK BOTTLE WATER IN A FEW MONTHS YOU WILL SEE THE DIFFERNCE. I TELL MANY OF MY CLIENTS WHO ASK ME THIS TO CHANGE WATER AND THEY COME BACK 4 MONTHS LATER THANKING ME SO TRY THESE TWO THINGS.

Ah yes maltese seem to have that problem, I was going to suggest cutting the hair around his eyes because that worked for mine, but apparently that isnt the problem. I dont know if this is possible, but maybe he has an eye infection?

Answer #4

it did get better… but it didnt stop entirely…

I was just ready an article in a dog mag I get about this and this is what this lady does that breeds Maltese. She mixes a little buttermilk and liver in a blender and feed it to her Maltese, she swears it helps with tear staining.

Naturally tearfree canine is 100% Organic herbs that you put on your dog’s food. You fix the problem from the inside. You can purchase it @ naturallytearfreecanine @gmail.com or visit their web site @ www.naturallytearfreecanine.com. It can be purchased by credit card by Paypal and is only $14.99 for a jar that last six months. It has no Tylosin or antibotics that will upset the stomach. Easy to use with great results.

Answer #7

You need to prevent the bacteria in the tears from metabolising the iron content.

This is extremely easy to do with out antibiotic based products like angels eyes or naturally tear free canine.

I use a product make in England that you add to the food- 4 weeks later the stains are gone. It is also beneficial to your dogs health. Google “Angels Delight Bichon Hotel”.

A bit pricey but once it has started working you use very little.

People who use Angels Eyes risk making bacteria resistant to antibiotics- this could harm both us and our dogs!!!

Phrannie, the vet actually check it twice before and no eye infection accuse, knock on wood. But he will try to see if he could open up the nose ( Im not sure what is call) when Denver is having his neuturing surgery, so that the tears will leak out more to the nose, instade thru his eyes. Sorry if I confuse you. thanks again for your advice, have a good wkend!;)

Tear stains have to be stopped from the inside out. You can keep cleaning the fur until you are blue in the face. It’s bothers the dog and the owners as well. I had good results with Naturally tearfree canine. It’s a 100% Organic and natural powder that you put on the dog’s food once a day. Easy. You do this for three days the first week, two days the second week and one day the third week. The 3-2-1 system. You can purchase it on their email @ naturallytearfreecanine@gmail.com for $14.99 a jar that last 6 months. Hope this helps you as much as it helped my cockapoo.

Have you had the vet verify that he doesn’t have any eye infections? 8 weeks is pretty young for his eyes to already be staining the hairs.

Ck that out first…then go cosmetic if the vet says he has no infection.

angel14215, I hope he doesn’t have eye(s) infection either, but his eyes looks normal and nothing unusual. About your puppy, after you cut the hair aroung his eyes, did he/she stopp treaing?

Answer #12

Try the Tear Stain Supplement by NaturVet. This is what a friend and Vet suggested.

Answer #13

the naturvet stuff seems to work for my friends with big dogs- i use angels delight- it costs more but my bichon is small so price wise it is ok- if you want to read about it got to bichonhotel.co.uk

Answer #14

My only concern about what looks like a good product is that they won’t tell you what the ingredients are. I might try it otherwise

Answer #15

yeah it works but it is an antibiotic!!!!

Answer #16

I agree that using antibiotics is silly- I use the same as you - angels delight. It works and I am more than happy with it.

I just wish that people would look at ingredients before recommending
