What has obama done?

Now this isnt a question so people can start fights or arguments, its just something I need to know.

Your president obama, what good has he done? I feel the us is the same as it was even with this new president…

Im very disappointed, I believed he would change something yet nothing is changing (not that im aware of anyway)

So if you could list a few facts (good or bad) of what he has done that would be great

Please I just want non biased information (this means nothing you heard from a friend who read it on the internet kinda thing) Thnx in advance :d

There is a new documentary pertinent to this question… Fall of the Republic. google video or youtube.

Presidents are figureheads. Placeholders for the monied interests who have the means to assassinate heads of state. President Obama… like his predecessor is basically a lackey who gets to bathe in the glory or take the heat whenever policy is looked on favorably or not… depending. My critique of Obama has less to do with him than pointing out that no matter who we elect… unless they are of a steadfast character willing to fight there would be masters… we will get more of the same.

You are correct… nothing has changed… nothing was meant to change… we get a semblance of change… but nothing more than a system wide game of three-card Monte. Real change would mean that those in power behind the scenes would have to give up some of their ill-gotten gain… this will not happen from within the system… but from a groundswell of grass roots reform championed by the proletariat.

Good things:

His presidency has demonstrated that America is not as bigotted as we are portrayed.

His presidency also demonstrates that Americans want a return to diplomtic multilateral world relations.

Bad things: Campaign lies mostly…

Renegged on his promise not to issue signing statements.

Renegged on his promise of legislative transparency by allowing 5 days of public access to each new bill before the vote.

Renegged on his promise not to increase taxes those earning less than a quarter million annually.

Ratcheted up the war on Islam in Central Asia.

Continued the attack on the Bill of Rights by remaining in stride with former President Bush with the issue of warrantless wiretapping. Candidate Obama stated his intentions to rescind this attack on our civil liberties… but fell in step with the policies of his predecessor.

Continues to withold enemy combatants indefinitely… disregarding the spirit of our constitution… disregarding the Geneva Convention… disregarding basic human liberty.

President Obama is a likeable man. He has the charisma to lead the American people out of the wilderness if he only would.

This is what he has done:

Ordered the closing of Guantanamo Bay by Jan 2010.

Eased restrictions on access to presidential records under the FOIA, reversed Bush’s policy on denying funding to foreign angencies that provide abortions.

Signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act which made it easier to file empoymend discrimination lawsuits.

He signed the SCHIP reauthorization which gave medical coverage to an additional 4 million children.

Signed the stimulus package in order to prevent us from falling into a depression.

Opened up a new era of foreign policy by rejecting Bush’s cowboy diplomacy by reaching out to our allies, the russians, and the muslim world.

Reversed Bush’s ban on federal funds being used for embryonic stem cell research.

There is plenty more, but you get the idea.

Things take time.

I’m not really concerened of who’s president right now, so I’m not going to be opinionated and crazy on the subject.

Maybe he’ll do good, maybe not. Only time can tell. (:

Answer #8

Good points miscegenymiser, but he also promised to get rid of Dont Ask Dont Tell and hasnt

Im in the UK, all we got to hear about was how Mccain was in the war, the policies of Clinton and how Obama was black We never got told any of his policies, just over and over again that he was black

To say that Obama won solely because of his colour would be offensive, but thats what it looks like from over here What has he achieved? Nothing What change did he bring? None What will he do before he gets gets beaten in an election? Anyones guess

Answer #9

There was recently an interesting article in the NY Times, I believe (I will go look it up and get the particulars a little later) addressing all of Obama’s campaign promises. There were like 15. So, out of 15, he’s kept two, Guantanamo Bay being one of them. He’s turned his back on two and NOT kept them, one about transparency in government, and the other about disallowing lobbyists to run things.

The remaining are in various “in the works” stages. Some haven’t gotten very far at all and probably never will. But I’m sure he will keep at least one or two promises.

Mr Obama is a gifted speaker, but is vastly inexperienced, which obviously didn’t matter to much of the country. His inexperience really shows in his foreign relations dealings and in how he’s trying to go about getting things done. I personally think he will be a one-termer unless his performance improves. Even George Bush was more popular at this phase of the Presidency than Mr Obama is now.

But in any case, I agree with whomever said that the President is a figurehead. (My personal opinion is that George Soros is the REAL man behind the curtain, but that’s just me).

Just FYI, I’m a Libertarian. LOL

Answer #10

Even George Bush was more popular at this phase of the Presidency than Mr Obama is now.

That was only because of 9/11. Prior to that he was in the low 50s in approval ratings. Lower than Obama was then. If Bush had half the problems Obama was left with, his approvals would have been far lower. You are comparing apples and oranges.
