Anything from an allergic reaction to hives can cause red blotches. If you get them, review what you ate, medicines used, and drugs taken. If it continues or becomes itchy, irritated or swells up, contact your doctor immediately. If you feel unwell, contact a doctor or 911 right away.
Though the most common cause of red blotches from what I've read before is rosacea.
