What is the cause of itchy skin?

Jeremy Goodrich yep, that's me Asked by thedude over 3 years ago, 1 answer.

Sometimes, I have itchy skin on my arms, head, and legs - depending on the time of day, it might be bad or not so bad, but I keep thinking what is the cause of my itchy skin? My guess is something I ate perhaps, or some kind of allergic reaction, but I'd...

like to know what the cause is.

Also, if anybody has any ideas on cures, homeopathic treatments, etc - that would be great. I do plan to chat with my doctor about it if i have a bad flare up, but idealy, I'd like to avoid seeing my doc since I don't like doctors that much. Thanks in advance.

Here are a few common causes of flaky, dry, and itchy skin - conditions that might warrant you seeing a doctor, changing your dietary habits, or what you generally wear for clothing:

* Dermatitis
* Chemical allergy
* Soap allergy
* Latex allergy
* Eczema
* Psoriasis
* Leukoplakia

Also some people get dry itchy skin from a lack of moisture, especially after taking a long bath or shower if the water is highly chlorinated, it will dry out the skin create that itchy feeling.

Here are a few tips to help reduce the severity of your itchy skin:

Only wear 100% cotton clothing
Make sure that your clothing fits well, not too tight else it'll irritate chafe your skin.
Go commando wink
Avoid deodorants and colognes - yep, you'll stink, but it might be better than being itchy - though other people might think otherwise.

Good luck.
