A cookie is something the computer saves in a folder to make accessing the internet faster in future visits to the site, the more you visit the more information it saves to your computer to make it faster and faster each time you visit happy its got for streamed videos like youtube. hope it helps

I have no idea why they are called cookies though... (maybe its because its something made of a lot of smaller things)

I think djwager is actually talking about cache and not cookies.

HTTP cookies are used for authenticating, tracking, and maintaining specific information about users, such as site preferences or the contents of their electronic shopping carts. The term cookie is derived from magic cookie, a well-known concept in UNIX computing which inspired both the idea and the name of HTTP cookies.

A magic cookie or just cookie for short, is a token or short packet of data passed between communicating programs, where the data is typically not meaningful to the recipient program. The contents are opaque and not usually interpreted until the recipient passes the cookie data back to the sender or perhaps another program at a later time. The cookie is often used like a ticket; to identify a particular event or transaction.
