What about gospels?

Obviously the bible has been translated into many different languages and everything. And there have been books that were supposed to be (and never were) added in the bible. Maybe I don’t have the right book but in the “new world translations” why is the book gospels not added? Is that not one of the most important books?

King James didn’t ‘’put together’’ a bible… the King James Bible was a VERSION (or translation in this case), beginning in 1604 and completed in 1611 by the Church of England. It was actually the THIRD translation into English; the first having been the ‘’Great Bible’’ commissioned by the Church of England during the reign of King Henry VIII (Yes, the same church the Henry VIII just made-up so he could divorce and kill his wives at will).

There are more accurate versions of the Bible out there; using transcripts that pre-date the ones used for the KJV by about 600 years.

The bible was first canonized or ‘’put together’’ 170 A.D. The ‘’Muratorian Canon’’ as it is came to be known, included all of the New Testament books except Hebrews, James, and 3 John. Later in 363 A.D. the Council of Laodicea stated that only the Old Testament (along with the Apocrypha) and the 27 books of the New Testament were to be read in the churches. The Council of Hippo in 393 A.D. and the Council of Carthage in 397 A.D. affirmed this.

It would be another 1200 years, before the bible would be translated into English.

I’ve read a few of these books that have’nt been added. The thing about the bible, is when it was put together by King James and some of his men they only added books that preached the gospel message and was based on teachings and stories that unraveled its message. The unadded books were more opinionated, and didnt really teach you much about God or anything. To the Christians what was put in is consitered absolute truth and based on what we believe, than the opinions of some during that time. (To the athiest who read this, obviously you dont agree and probably dont get what I’m saying, thats ok, it probably doesnt apply to you anyway, so please lets agree to disagree on this one. Thanks)

There are many writings around that period that didn’t add up…”modern” Christianity first started with the canonization of the bible about 287 ish AD…

…then, the reformation, naturally in the middle ages had another huge impact on western Christianity.

If you want to learn more about the gnostic gospels, there is a good set of links here: http://www.funadvice.com/q/what_is_the_gnostic_gospels

The trouble is with every holy book…it was written years after the events took place…and, given we place so much emphasis on the exact meaning of the words…it’s entirely possible every religion in the world has it wrong.

Answer #5

There is no book of the Bible named “Gospels”. The books of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John and referred to as the Gospels.
