Unemployment at 5 year high number, what can we do?

Over the past 12 months, the number of unemployed persons has increased by
2.2 million and the unemployment rate has risen by 1.4 percentage points,
with most of the increase occurring over the past 4 months. The unemployment rate rose from 5.7 to 6.1...

This was from the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) from the US government. Is there something you or I can do to help this situation? Me, I'm trying to learn more about the companies where I shop and spend money, and making sure that they are helping to create jobs AND treat their employees fairly. What, if anything, are you doing? And what else can I do to help out my country, in these economically challenging times?

I'm making sure that any politicians I vote for are actually committed to changing things when it comes to unemployment.

Of course we also need to be committed to doing something about inflation, which I don't see happening, either...

something we have in my country (singapore), we've had the same old gvt in power for 43 years, and they win 65% of the popular vote every single election.

now from a freedom and democratic standpoint, that may not seem very good. but in economic terms its not bad. our unemployment rate is now at about 2%.

although a significant portion of that are made up by part-time jobs

so stability isnt always bad...depends on how one looks at it

build little greenhouses in our backyard to offset high food prices a little, stop trying to make money off of houses; like a car they should definately go dwn in value over years. This is very unrealistic but make it mandatory to use excess amounts of money like for the rich with a time limit. Stop being lazy and grab a bike to work...
