People always come up with doomsday theories. The Earth will not end for a very long time.
If it is a religious reason, I know it is not true. However, if you believe that it will strongly end for whatever reason, then that is fine.

Do not worry...

Don't accept everything you see on Wikipedia as truth. Yes, it's a good website, but, correct me if I'm wrong, anyone can edit it, making the information possibly wrong.

I ran a simulation using a program called Celestia.
On that date 21st of December, 2012, the earth sun and center of the galaxy do align.
This could do something or nothing, we cant work it out because we don't have enough information.

As for the Mayan calendar, it might be that the Mayans knew this and calculated that the orbit of the earth will be changed (because of intensive gravity from the center of the galaxy) but couldn't work out the rest of the calendar after this date as the earths orbit is uncertain.

There have been Doomsday Prophecies since time began!! Honestly, none of it is true.

The world was meant sometimes before 400AD, 968AD because of an eclipse, 1000AD (in January AND May), 1179 because of a great number of planets aligning, a dozen different times to 1832 when the Mormons thought the world was going to end, dozens of cults committed suicide throughout the 20th Century because they though the world was going to end, again in 2000... The list goes on.

I wouldn't get so worried if I were you *rolls eyes*
