The rebel flag

Should it still be a symbol for the south?

Answer #1

Do you know utopia that just as many northerners had slaves as the people of the south. Their flag was no different than our first flag that had 13 stars on it. It was nothing more than a rallying symbol for that armies of the south. Also quite a few southerners wanted to end slavery as well. Some northerners wanted to kepp slavery it is just a matter of opinion.

Answer #2

The Rebel flag should NOT still be used, though sadly it is. It is a modern day symbol of racism. It was conceived as a symbol for Southern unity and pride…pride in a model of cruelty and inhumanity towards slaves.

Anyone who says that it is “just” a symbol of the southern heritage has their head in the sand. It is used as a way to remind african americans of the horror of slavery.

Answer #3

Sure, it was a Southern flag for a time period in History - different people assign different meanings to it, I venture to say neither is 100% correct - the meaning / historical significance is in the mind/heart of the beholder.
