The pledge of alligience...

Kurotsuchi taicho from Bleach Asked by sillist1s about 1 year ago, 8 answers.

So how about I'm watching a story on the news about a little kid that wouldn't say the pledge and got into major trouble for it. I don't get why he would get into trouble for it. A kid in my English class got into trouble for it when a sub was there one...

day (she made everyone stand). Are they allowed to do that? Make people stand for the pledge? I mean, what if for religous reasons, they can't say it, and they still force them to stand and say it? I never said it for personal reasons, I stand, but don't say it (it doesn't mean that I don't love my country...there's reasons)
Do you guys think that standing for the plege should be mandatory or what? Some people are saying they don't have to, but other people say they do no matter what. What do you think?

The Supreme Court has already ruled that students cannot be forced to say the pledge.

I don't think anyone should have to stand up and agree with anything. I am a christian, and if christian prayers were something that was done before school started every day, I wouldn't want to force someone, with consequences, to do it if they didn't believe. Although I may think they are wrong, no one should be forced. Thats the beauty of this country, (inspite of it's many flaws) ; we can pray if we want without persecution and to have that right. We should be able to not pledge if we want. Although, question I thought of...I write it as a new question.

Forcing someone to say the pledge of allegiance goes against what we stand for! Freedom!

We used to have the pledge of allegiance at our school. But for some reason, they do have it anymore. Not that I care, or want to do it. I didn't like doing it every morning. We only did in honor of those who died this year at our school. sad
But yeah, it's completely stupid, and the kid shouldn't have got in trouble for not saying it, it shouldn't matter. We don't have to say the pledge at work do we? Unless you work at a school.

I know around where I live they were trying to take it out of the schools and not let them say it. I went to a catholic grade school so I said it everyday. I said it in my public high school too. Everyone does have different beliefs I don't think anyone should be forced to say anything that they don't believe in. Personally I say because I know a lot of people who are fighting for our country but not everyone believes in the same thing.

No. In fact, I find the very concept of the pledge repugnant and refuse to ever say it. There is no place in a free society for unconditional pledges of allegiance. That's the type of thing you expect from a communist state or a dictatorship.

True patriots pledge their allegiance to their countrymen and the principles that maintain their mutual freedoms.

Well that's plainly stupid. Nobody should get introuble for not saying the pledge. Is not mandatory. We have our rights as right as everybody else in the country, so by not saying the pledge it shouldn't be count agaisn't you. But for me, I don't believe in the whole pledge thing, is a country which we live on, (has it flaws) but that doesn't mean I am agaisnt the U.S. I love this country, but still, the kid had no right to get introuble, he may habe a belief, he may be an anarchist, or something. Furthermore, freedom of speech and whatever else, should be counted to kids as well. After all, they have the right as everybody else as well. =D So the kid had no fault. And shouldn't have to get a punishment. =^.^=

Okay, the pledge should not be mandatory, but I don't agree with them taking it away entirely. I think it should be left in the program. I grew up in a coven and I had no problem saying it. I just changed god to gods. If you have an issue with it don't say it or change it.

I became a Christian a few years back, so I understand the perspective of Christians on this, but seriously, even most of us would say it should not be mandatory.
