I was home schooled, and I obtained my G.E.D.
It, was very difficult... It took a lot of hard work discipline, but in all honesty...
Yes, though it would of been easier to have obtained my diploma, I learned a lot more, gained a better respect through perseverance, it took me 2 long hard years of working my tail off... While supporting my family. But, If I can do it! Anyone can do it!
I currently work as an Electronics/Mechanical Technician on Chamberlain/Liftmaster Garage Door opener systems. The Chamberlain Group Inc. is a fortune 500 World wide manufacturer of openers, Entry systems, commercial residential op orator, transmitters, and electronics.
I did end up going to college, with majors and minors in human sciences, psychology and sociology. Though with out my GED I would not have been able to do anything... It may not sound like much, but my career has definite advancement opportunities... You sound like you're ready to shoot for the stars... I encourage you to fulfill your dreams, and be who you want to be. Because, you deserve it... ... You can do it!
So, heres the scoop...
Most, states support ABE (Adult Basic Education) Programs through local community college organizations or county A.B.E. learning centers, that are free...
I researched and found a website Math and Reading Help... (Google Search High School Diploma Vs. GED) This is what I came up with.
High School Diploma Versus GED
What are the differences between traditional high school diplomas and GEDs? Is one of these better or more useful than the other? Learn the answers to these questions and more about both high school diplomas and GED certificates.
What exactly are the differences between a high school diploma and a GED? Students may wonder why they should finish years of high school in pursuit of a diploma when a few tests can earn them a GED. Is one better than the other? Can a GED benefit a student?
A high school diploma usually requires a student to complete their curriculum at a traditional public school within three years after turning 18. In order to receive a diploma, students must complete coursework determined by the school district and state government. Curricula can vary between school districts and states, but students generally take four years to complete all diploma course requirements.
Most students who have a high school diploma qualify for entry-level jobs and typically earn more than those who lack a diploma. Students hoping to advance within a company may need additional college training. Many employers, colleges, universities, military branches, and law enforcement agencies prefer applicants with traditional high school diplomas rather than GEDs. However, there are some benefits to earning a GED.
GED are given to students who pass a series of tests given in five different academic subjects. In order to pass these tests, students must score higher than 60% of the sample set of graduating seniors. Typically, students must prepare thoroughly to pass all tests. Students who wish to take the GED must not have graduated from or still be enrolled in high school and must be over the age of 16. The exams take about seven hours to complete. Some students take preparation courses before taking the GED.
Many community colleges do accept applicants possessing a GED. Students who have difficulties completing high school, who don't have time, or who failed to complete high school may greatly benefit from the GED. It is the closest, most well-recognized equivalent to the high school diploma. However, it has limitations, and not all institutions and academic organizations consider it sufficient for admission or employment.
Keep your options open, Ask around some more, make a sound informed decision. Remember, time is valuable... You must be 16+ In most states to begin with your GED. You can go back to school sooner via High School.
Good Luck hun!
I Wish you the best if you have any questions... Feel free to ask!

While both the HSD GED are a credible and acceptable form of a high school diploma [most applications say requirments:HSD or Equivalent]you will have much more chance of success in getting the career you want and getting into a good criminal justice school with the HSD.Some colleges, even criminial justice schools will not even let you get your foot in the door without a full HSD [as in 'no GED's']. People in our society tend to frown on GED's because they associate them with people who were to bad to stay in school, didnt want to put forth the effort to finish, took the easy way out, etc. I am not one of those people and I think it's totally your desicion but I would strongly suggest for your own benefit you work your butt off and get the diploma.
