Should i tell my neighbor i shot his blind dog?

Asked by anti_skills over 2 years ago, 49 answers.

So I shot my neigbors dog,
It actually died...
I ended up burying it by the river...
Should I tell him?
But I feel really bad,
He keeps calling for him...
And it makes me cry.

If only you could be in my head... Answered by sikashimmer on Jun 13, 2007, 11:17AM

I would tell a white lie.

Let him know that his dog died and you buried him. But that you do not know what happened to him. Maybe he was hit by a car?

If you own up to shooting the dog you could get in mounds of trouble. (which you'd deserve, I want to kill someone if they shot MY dog.)

You could get arrested, go to jail, etc. I'd own up to it offer to replace the dog, else if it's discovered later, you could get into a ton of trouble.

OMG Why would you do such a thing.
Was it on accident? Or because it was being annoying or what?
Your neighbor is blind? OMG maybe it was his seeing eye dog that was given to him.
Why did you shoot it that is so wrong and I feel sorry for your neighbor to have someone living near him like you.
You should tell him right away sit him down and tell him that you shot him and tell him the truth. Offer to replace the dog and you should help him around where ever he needs help.
That dog could have meant a lot to him.

You seem to understand that you did a bad thing. I won't join everyone putting you down. The fact that you feel bad about it now shows that you have good in you.

At this point I don't think I'd tell the dog owner. He doesn't know what happened to his dog so for all he knows it ran off and someone else is taking care of it. Not knowing what happened he can gradually let go. If my dog died replacing it would be the least of my worries. After years together a dog is like a member of the family and no other could replace it.

There is something I tell myself whenever I do something that I later regret. You can't change the past, you can only learn from it. Let this experience make you a kinder, more thoughtful and consciencious person.

ok first of all i wouldnt be mad at you for all we know the shooting of the dog could have been an accident ..you feel realy bad about what happened so i feel sorry for both you and the owner of the dog..but! if the dog is on your property you do have the right to shoot it because its truspassing on your property weather it knows it or not ..if you felt it was a threat then you had the right to shoot it . if i were you i would tell the owner and i would say that i didnt mean to kill it i just meant to scare it off because thats the truth you didnt mean to kill it just scare it off and its on your property so you have the right to shoot ..tell him that it eats you up inside to know what youve done because you didnt mean to hurt anyone so you did the best thing you thought of doing and that was to pick out a good spot and bury it by the river. tell the owner about where it is and the both of you could go there when ever he wants to ..like others befor me said try to help him by getting a replacement dog and maybe the both of you can work around this problem.

W.O.W.. I would feel horrible! If you tell him of course he's gunna be mad at you 4ever! But If my dog ran off and I didn't know where it went, I sure would like to know what happened to my best friend and I would probably want to keep his ashes.

I bet your never gunna shoot a dog again

Just a friendly warning: if you hurt my dog, I'd.. um.. severely damage you. Let alone if you murdered her.

Ah.. I basically agree with sikashimmer tell a white lie.. And then buy him a new dog with a doggie bed, toys, food ect.

But yeah.. you don't want to let him know his dog was murdered _ and that he could've still been alive if it wasn't for you.

Pretty sure this is a bait question, just to generate interest and get people talking. But on the off chance this is true, what you did was very wrong. Of course you already know that because you posted it on here. You need to speak to an adult that you can trust and get some advice from them. If this blind man is still calling for his dog, that is so sad. If it was his seeing eye dog, this man may not be able to get around and could fall and injure himself.

Well I don't know why you did it but I can give you a perspective from the othe rside of the fence so to speak. My neighbors don't like my family so they see that it is fitting to kill our dogs. They have shot at them while they were both on our property and on public property. They have tried to call them onto the road to run them over and have swerved to hit our dogs. The most recent tragedy was my little chihuahua who loved every one. Now there have also been instances when some of our dogs have just disappeared and let me tell you that is worse than knowing for sure what happened. I myself would have felt better if the people who did these things would come up tell me what happened truthfully. I myself would not expect them to replace the dog there would be no way I could for a while. Yes he will be upset because if that man is like me our dogs are more dear to us than most our family. I hope you do the right thing even if it won't be easy.

What? were you having a dull day, and this spiced it up?

If what you say is true, and you're truly remosefull, and guilty...and it's painful enough to make it so you'd never put yourself thru again...knowingly and purposly putting your poor neighbor thru emotional hell...(not unlike having a child disappear from under your nose, only to be dumped by the river dead...), then I'd keep my mouth shut.

If your motive to TELL your neighbor is just to make yourself feel better, tough luck...keep your mouth shut...

phrannie

PS...If what you did to your neighbor happened to me...I'd be so devastated...so frigging mad, I'd feel obligated to give you the same treatment.
