1. GET A BIKE! Biking costs no money for gas, is better for the environment and it's good for ya!

There are also ways through car maintenance and efficient driving that can help.
Maintenance:
-Change your oil, spark plugs, and air filter regularly.

-Keep your tires properly inflated and consider replacing worn tires with low-rolling-resistance (LRR) tires. LRR picture of tire mechanic with tires tires roll more easily on the road, reducing the amount of energy needed to move the car forward.

-Use the grade of motor oil recommended by your vehicle's manufacturer.

Efficient driving:
-Avoid idling: If you have to sit in your car for more than one minute, shut off the engine.
-Drive Smoothly — Slow, even acceleration and braking can improve gas mileage.
-Maintain a constant speed
-Limit air conditioning
-Park in the Shade — This minimizes fuel evaporation while the car sits.

I hope that helps you!

Getting a bike or walking is all well and good, but what if you have a 20+ mile commute to work every day? Not gonna work well for everyone...
