no you can use food coloring!! Like put some in a bowl, mix it with water, put and egg into it, and get like something to get it out, and let dry!
You can also use natural dyes, like boiling the eggs with a load of onion skins (a beautiful polished orange/brown effect) or turmeric (bright yellow). I had a lot of fun with that this year. Someone on this site gave me a really good link with advice on natural dyes - I can't find it at the moment because there seems to be a bug in the site, but I'll try to pass it on to you later.
putting a little white vinegar into the dye, no matter what type, makes the colors a little more vivid.
yupps!! it does work =) but this year I decorated them by drawing designs with sharppies!! and it turned out nicely!!

Does food coloring work for painting Easter eggs, or is there some speical solution needed to paint them?
