Painful tongue ring

Does piercing your tongue really hurt and that you cant eat for a week? How can not this happen? Is there any way I can have a tongue ring and not experience these? Thanks!

Uhm.. my only suggestion is to keep your mouth really clean.. use mouthwash (alcohol free) after eating anything.. and for the first two days stay away from solid foods.. it only really hurts to eat that because your tongue is swollen and you have to move it to chew.
With me, after the first couple of days I was already eating pizza and stuff like that..
it's not recommended, but it does heal pretty quickly.
Just keep it clean.

Oh yeah, and for the first part of your question.. the piercing itself doesn't hurt when you get it done. Most only complain about the clamp but it's done withing a minute and you barely feel anything.

I have a tongue ring and YES!! it is very painful and it does take a few days for the swelling to go down to where you can eat. Some advice is carry a bottle of Listerine around with you and everytime you eat, drink, smoke or anything rinse your mouth out. It helps with the pain and stops it from getting infected.

yes sweety it does hurt, I have had mine pierced for about 5 years now. but it will feel ok after about 2 weeks, just use a lot of mouthwash!! and eat a lot of ice cream!

It does not hurt as much as you think. But after the piercing, your tongue will swell up. When you talk, you'll sound like retarded. And its hard for you to eat or even speak. For me, I go for a liquid diet after my piercings. I didnt eat anything until the 3th or 4th day. I only drink water, milk etc.

Im not sure whether there're ways to prevent it or not. But I know that if you drink lots of cold water, it can minimise the pain. Try it. =))
