yes thats what it means. The Bible says that there is only ONE way to get to heaven... that is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord savior. In the Bible it states...I am the way, the truth and the Life...no man comes to the father but by me. which means no one will gain access to God or Heaven accept through Jesus. Hope this helps happy

ok first of all thall shalt not have any other god before me means that you shouldnt worship any other person, or god, or thing before God! there is only one God and hes saying if you worship another god you will go to hell! but as long as you worship the only one and only true God and are saved you wont go to hell! but there are people that are jewish, catholic, and many other religions that are saved and that believe God is the only true God! so if you are not saved you will go to hell. but if you worship another god besides the one and only true God there will be judgement to fall upon you when we go to heaven there will be judgement!! but if you need more help with me explaining this because I don't know if I explained this well enough then you can ask me

*** thall shall not have any god before me

Read the whole thing:

Exodus 20:1-3
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.

Were *YOU* brought out of Egypt? Of course not. The 10 commandments are laws that apply to the ancient Hebrew, who no longer exist. They are not general commands for all humanity for all time. Fundamentalists *dishonestly* ignore the context of the 10 commandments, because they get a smug feeling by pretending their religion (which isn't even Judaism!) is the chosen one.

Well said, toadaly.
In one way, God appears totalitarian, and in another way, like someone's awesome dad. The bible is just a book of moral tales and philosophy, just interpret it your own way, because you will get tons of responses to this telling you different variations of the same thing...

Toadaly - well said :-)

***thall shall not have any god before me***

So what the bible says is: if you served another god before it, you need not even try serving this god, cause dont matter how much you pray, YOU WONT REACH HEAVEN??? Sound real fair to me lol

Cantthinkofanamebiotch - Please let me know if you need me to post a link here where you can find lotz and lotz more of these examples in the bible to clear your mind.

Take care all

The story of Moses, which includes the Ten Commandments, is part of the Torah.
The Torah consists of the five books of Moses- Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
The Torah is the basis for the Jewish religion.
Both Christianity and Islam also include the five books of Moses among their sacred texts.

If your reasoning is that the Ten Commandments includes thall shalt not have any other god before me and if you don't believe in the god of the Ten Commandments, then you are going to hell for not believing in the JEWISH god, and that does not include jesus.

But both christianity and islam include the Ten Commandments. So now you can go to hell for not believing in the jewish god (doesn't include jesus), the christian god (includes jesus), and the islamic god (allah).

Just be a good, respectful person. Try to do what is right for yourself and others. Don't try to inflict harm on those you meet. Respect your environment, the animals and the human animals.
Do this and just live a happy life.

There is no one answer for religious belief except that each religion thinks it is the only way. Given that the big three, christianity, islam and judaism, all believe in the ten commandments should make that clear.

thats true. but I belive , that if you havent been tought or no ones ever told you about god. you cant go to hell . so in lots of countries there are people with other religions but havent ever herd about god as such and its not there fault so they cant be judged for it.

IF you are a Christian you follow the ten commandments as a rule against sin. All other believers shouldn't try to understand or determine what they are for. If you go against the commandments it is considered a broken rule. This doesn't mean you are condemned to hell though. We have free will and are free to repent for breaking these rules as well.
If you love God above all then you wouldn't break the rest. If you love God you won't steal for example. False gods relates to :money, power, cheating, self love and pleasure and so on.

captainassassin--- you may think that what I said suffers major flaws however Psalm 19:7 states The Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. 2nd Timothy 3:16 states, All scripture is God breathed. In John 14:6 it says, I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE, NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER (God) EXCEPT THROUGH ME (JESUS). This is God's word...not something I just made up in my head one day...how does this suffer major flaws?

***Psalm 19:7 states The Law of the Lord is perfect***

If it WAS perfect, there wouldn't be several versions of the Bible, and Christianity wouldn't be so divided. Regardless, a book doesn't validate itself by claiming its own perfection...

***This is God's word...not something I just made up in my head one day...how does this suffer major flaws?***

That's just what you BELIEVE...

What about infant deaths? They are conceived in sin, and born into sin (according to the Bible); too young to speak, ask forgiveness, repent, etc. they can't even read or understand language. What happens to them?

What about people who aren't exposed to Christianity? Are they sent to hell because there wasn't a Bible or Christian nearby to save them?

Try to find scripture that addresses these issues...

Speaking of which Captain, why in the world would a child of two loving xtian parents be born in sin??? Doesnt make sense does it? Could it be because his/her parents had sex before conceiving him/her lol But why then give them genital parts?

Nah the person who didnt hear of god, will be save, but the person who heard from another person about a god and unfortunately took on Hinduism, is gonna burn for the rest of his un natural life ;-)

***I am the way, the truth, and the life***

This quote was copied from the Book of the Dead which was written in ancient Egypt over 5000 years ago...approximately 3000 years before the birth of Christ.

In it, Horus the sun god (who was also a saviour like Christ) says I am the way, the truth, and the LIGHT

I am not making this up, this is concrete evidence found by archeologists.

Because the Bible says so... [Psalms 51:5], [Romans 3:23], [Romans 5:12], [Ephesians 2:5]
