Now you can use smiley's in your questions and answers

Jeremy Goodrich yep, that's me Asked by thedude 7 months ago, 17 answers.

So, we added smiley's today. Let me know what you think & here's how to use them:
1) Smile = which uses a colon & right parentheses
2) Sad = which uses a colon & left parentheses
3) Surprise! = which uses a colon & lowercase o
4) Winky = which uses a semi colon and right parentheses

Thanks to our engineers & advisors who gave feedback on these when we put them together. And, a huge thanks to our designer who made them

Can the FunAdvice community submit 'smiley' designs too?

Hm,...do you mean for special symbol?

OR do you mean, instead of the ones we made, use a custom one that you designate?

If the former, we can add that to our list...if the latter, that'll be a fair bit of work, and it might not happen for a while.

Can you elaborate on what you had in mind?

We, I could submit a smilie in (.gif) format, and you could add it to the 'smilie bank', and designate the keystrokes for it...

As long as it was your photo, one you made, and we had permission to use it...sure.

However, if it was a smiley from another site, then we wouldn't be able to use it.

Ideally, if you want to do something like that...you give us an idea of what keystroke to use to trigger it.

And, it'll probably take ~1-2 weeks to implement, but it's doable.

Ah, animated gif would be very hard, I think. If it's a static one then yes, we could consider it.

Dunno, we have a 3rd party ruby on rails plugin for our image handling. It doesn't always 'do the right thing'. At some point, we'll have to upgrade to a better one or re-invent the wheel, I think.
