Well, generally your flow lightens up and turns from bright red to a reddish brown to a light brown on your last day or two. Count how many days your period is. Around the second to last day, only use small/slender tampons or switch to a panty liner. I buy a box of tampons that are super absorbent for heavy flow and light ones for the last day or two.

I can't tell how long my period is yet because I've only just started getting my period. but thank s for the answer!

just after you start to notice the blood flow lessen use pads. after awhile you'll get the hang of how long your period is and everything.
