Could my parents file a runaway report?

Asked by confused92 over 2 years ago, 3 answers.

I currently live in New Jersey, where the legal age to move out without parent consent is 18. I really hate living in my house, and I want to move in with my boyfriends family. (They are okay with it) They now live in South Carolina. The age for moving...

out legally without parent consent is 17 there. When I am 17, If I move out and go to South Carolina, could my parents, which live in new jersey, still file a runaway report, even though I would be living in South Carolina where the age to move out of your house is 17?

Yeah they could... also if they find out that ur at ur bf's house (I dont know who lives there-- his parents i would assume).. his parents could get charged with kidnapping, since they didnt tell ur parents where you were. I know it sounds far fetched, but I've heard it happen many times before. It just depends on how motivated your parents are to file for criminal criminal charges against ur bf's family

Yes.

Kid, everyone goes through a phase where they want to move out, but to actually act on it - by moving in with your boyfriend's family at that - is STUPID. I don't even understand the kind of family your boyfriend has. His MOTHER actually approves of this? That says something about her.
