three years ago I purchased three of the same woollen coats which came wrapped in plastic. I noticed that they smelled like mothballs.

over the years, I have soaked them in fabric softner and aired them for months and dry cleaned them as well, but the smell is still there.

can you help?

Take them to a dry-cleaner. The moth balls probably saved the coat from the horrible little wool eating bugs, but a dry cleaner can usually get the smell out or at least they can be honest with you about where you stand on the situation.
