Why is my mom's dog scared of everything?

…..like stuffed animals and random items like candy wrapper? Or Christmas bows? Or music??? lol

Answer #1

Perhaps it was at one time abused or mistreated, and it has developed a general mistrust of everything that could possibly pose a threat. To dogs and the rest of nature, things that are dangerous are usually noted by their bright colors or loud noises. Maybe he doesn’t realize that the inanimate objects that scare him aren’t alive.

Answer #2

the christmas bows and candy wrappers could be a poisonous insect or snake, he may interpret the music to be a large and angry animal approaching.

Answer #3

He wasn’t abused, we adopted him from a breeder and he was spoiled because he was blind in one eye.

Answer #4

that’s it! he is blindish. He recognizes his hindrance and is extra careful due to poor depth perception.

Answer #5

I’m sorry to say that the fact that you got him from a breeder does not necessarily mean he was not abused.

Answer #6

Devin is right…Animals depend on their senses for survival if they are injured or suffer a loss of any of them they become more afraid. Hence, that’s why if an animal is injured or in distress it becomes more dangerous to approach.

Answer #7

It’s probably traumatized from before Giving him love and comfort should do..

Answer #8

Some dogs are just skiddish. My one dog has been with me since birth and he is afraid of everything and everyone but his human family. He is even scared of our other animals. He’s just a sissy I guess. He will warm upto some things and people but it takes him a while. Every dog has thier own personality.

Answer #9

Maybe you’re dog has had troubles with previous owners and wasn’t socialised properly, abused ect. You should definetly make him/her feel comfortable and give him/her loads of love and cuddles and make sure it’s really socalised and that should do the trick.
