Smoking marijuana regularly (a joint a day) can damage the cells in the bronchial passages which protect the body against inhaled microorganisms and decrease the ability of the immune cells in the lungs to fight off fungi, bacteria, and tumor cells. For patients with already weakened immune systems, this means an increase in the possibility of dangerous pulmonary infections, including pneumonia, which often proves fatal in AIDS patients. Regular smoking has been shown to materially affect the overall ability of the smokerâs body to defend itself against infection by weakening various natural immune mechanisms, including macrophages (a.k.a. killer cells) and the all-important T-cells. Obviously, this suggests the conclusion, which is well-supported by scientific studies, that the use of marijuana as a medical therapy can and does have a very serious negative effect on patients with pre-existing immune deficits resulting from AIDS, organ transplantation, or cancer chemotherapy, the very conditions for which marijuana has most often been touted and suggested as a treatment.
Short-term effects of using marijuana include:
Sleepiness,
Difficulty keeping track of time, impaired or reduced short-term memory,
Reduced ability to perform tasks requiring concentration and coordination, such as driving a car,
Increased heart rate,
Potential cardiac dangers for those with preexisting heart disease,
Bloodshot eyes,
Dry mouth and throat,
Decreased social inhibitions,
Paranoia, hallucinations,
Impaired or reduced short-term memory,
Impaired or reduced comprehension,
Altered motivation and cognition, making the acquisition of new information difficult,
Paranoia,
Psychological dependence,
Impairments in learning, memory, perception, and judgment - difficulty speaking, listening effectively, thinking, retaining knowledge, problem solving, and forming concepts,
Intense anxiety or panic attacks.
Long-term effects of using marijuana include:
Enhanced cancer risk,
Decrease in testosterone levels and lower sperm counts for men,
Increase in testosterone levels for women and increased risk of infertility,
Diminished or extinguished sexual pleasure,
Psychological dependence requiring more of the drug to get the same effect.
It does not affect your immune system, in fact they give it to cancer patients, AIDS patient etc. It contains the drug THC which is helpful to them. any more questions go to http://www.marijuanaaddiction.info/index.htm
I don't think somking weed is bad either. I've done it and i think everyone in this world should try it once, you never know what youre missing. It makes me kinda slower, and i talk slower, and use smaller words, but i like the overall effect, but im quitting smoking weed, cigarettes, and drinking for my boyfriend, because once he's out of jail, he wants to live a clean life, without drugs and stuff. Hes getting his life on track when he gets out, and im gonna help him. but anyways, like i said, try it if you are curious, and if you like it, then keep on doing it. Its not addicting like cigarettes.
i agree smokeing weed is the best thing ever. my life just goes so much better and it seems like stupid shit dosent bother me anymore weather i be high or not. now im not saying stay completly stoned all day but keep a nice buzz for a nice chunk of the day an u will be suprised how much more relaxed you are expecially if you are a person who worries about every little thing
okay.
pretty much marijuana is a gateway drug/herb.
as some of you mentioned about me.. it takes more of the herb or other drugs to get the same high.
people who have had their experience with more 'hardcore' drugs wouldn't call marijuana a drug at all, rather, a herb.
if you continue the use of marijuana the high you get off of it at first wont be enough for you, you'll need more and want something to increase the high.
i guess this is what i think the worst out come of the use of it is..
i have done hardly any research.

WOW... so much misinformation here. Not to mention those that do favor smoking seem incredibly illiterate (which means you can barely read or write). I am a HARDCORE smoker, I have studied drugs and drug use and abuse and I have taken many many drugs in my day. Marijuana kills 0 people each year compared to 500,000 people killed by tobacco, and 50,000 killed by alcohol (not including drunk driving deaths).
To seperate the fact from the fiction, go to any big bookstore and flip through the book,

Even the JOURNAL of the AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION called this book, An important contribution to the marijuana and drug policy literature.
