Layered choppy hair cut?

Well I always cut my own hair because the salons dont know what I like. but I need like choppy layered punk look. I have jet black hair and im going to put a purple streak in my fringe. well im going to do the choppy layered kinda emo look and I need...

help because I cant just chop at my hair.so can anyone give me advice please?

I would seriously consider going to a salon- pay a little it more than normal and they usually do a great job.

Also, if you have a picture of what you want and you show the stylist, you can usually get it done well.
