Hey.. I talked my dad into getting this laptop and selling the desktop that was no good and kept crashing and such. Anyway, I installed the interenet servie and was about to use it on the laptop and it was saying that the modem is not installed properly. It has a v.90/v.92 modem. The people we bought it from mush have just had a field day going through and deleteing programs.... I guess they thought they were cleaning the computer up. Anyway, they didn't give us any of the computer's disks with the laptop..... now I am freaking out because my dad will be so mad if there isn't something I can to to get the modem working properly.... please tell me what I can do to fix it, and you will be my hero.

Check to see what tipe of modem you have so that you can search for the appropriate driver and reinstall it.

start > control panel > modem

and you should be able to see what you have in there. Then get online on another computer download the driver to disc and see if reinstalling it on the laptop solves your problem.

It's most likely a driver problem, with the modem not having it's software required to function. I would recommend contacting or visiting the website of the original manufacturer of the laptop. In most cases, sometimes for a small fee, they can send you the restore software, and/or the driver itself.

This could also be caused by a component of windows itself missing. Without the windows discs, however, you will not be able to reinstall it. I would recommend starting with the manufacturer of the machine, and, failing that, get yourself another copy of windows.

If you are unsure as to how to continue, contact a local service center. I highly recommend mom and pop shops over the CompUSAs of the world.

Hope this helps, good luck...
