Kids making fun of each other--stricter rules?

Why does it shock people when a child finally gets fed up with other children making fun of them and takes a gun or knife to school to try to make it stop? Why are there not stricter rules in schools for kids that make fun of their peers? I mean, many of...

these kids make fun of other kids to be mean, but they go tell their teachers what happened, and the teacher tells them to just deal with it .
What gives them, the children, the idea that making fun of people is such a great idea?
Now, I am not saying that shooting your classmates is a good idea, but I do understand what can drive someone that young to do something that bad.
I would just like other thoughts on this subject.

I think your a right but on the other hand their are things we can do as parents we can teach are kids that their are people in life that are mean and the proper way in dealing with that is to boost their egos so that it is hard for a bully to pick on them cause your child will be more head strong then that and things like that wont bother them we cant rely on their teachers to do anything thing about bullying what can they really do but tell you whats going on and again it boils down to you as a parent my daughter is 4 and nobody can tell her she is ugly or stuiped she is so full of herself it makes me sick lol we are always leting her no that she is perfect. pretty smart ect...

yeh I know like omg im in grade ten which is probably different to you guys but everyone calls my group of friends nerds jst because we think different things are funny to them and arent as pretty as them or their girlfriends!! most of the time we get called nerds in class and the teachers dont even care but then wheni we say somthing supposably rude to one of the pretty popular chicks its like the whole world stops!! I agree that teasing and name calling definatley should not be allowed but not to the extreme that people take guns and knives to school!! I think anyone who even thinks that taking weapons to school is funny or cool should watch bowling for columbine, a documentry about all the students who were victumns of massacres!! It was disgusting to know how many people have guns and the amount of people who use them!! It even made me sick to hear that a SIX year old boy had shot and killed a six year old girl!! I think that everyone who hasnt seen bowling for columbine should rent it a watch it for sure!!

well kids make fun of each other, because when they do the other kids laugh, and so they're liked because they made the other kids laugh... or picking on a kid keeps the rest of them from picking on you, or putting another kid down keeps their own insecurities from surfacing... kids bully for a bunch of reasons... maybe its learned behavior... but it happens in all schools everywhere...

I agree, teachers need to deal with the bullying better, especially when it turns physical...
