Im 13, going to spain in a couple of weeks. My period will happen while im there and lots of my friends are taking the pill to stop theirs, but I have been told that it has bad side effects, especially for someone my age. Help???
your body is only just starting to get started, if you put the machinery on hold, the cogs won't like it!
however, I have to say that it is not unsafe (sorry but a once off isn't unheard of)
I don't necassarily agree with doing it though. just use tampons, no one will know. and yes it's pooey and crap, but we're women, these are the things that make us what we are! that's like saying, oh I'm having my baby induced because it clashes with christmas! (oh no celebs do that don't they - scum!) I digress :O(
anyway, what your friends do is up to them, this is your body and your choice. if you do it once though you may well be tempted to do it again when you know a parties coming up, and it's a bad habit to get into because "I was alright last time"...
your friends will do a lot of things over the next few years that they wil justify with great excuses, that actually sound convincing, but you should use your judgement regarding your own choices and health. the fact that you have doubts is good because it means your not thinking so much 'in the box'
keep it up, challenge anything that doesn't seem right and stick to your guns!
YOU CAN GET TAMPONS FOR TEENAGERS. THEY ARE SMALL. THEY DON'T HURT. DON'T WORRY ABOUT THEM. IT'S NOTHING LIKE SEX IF THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT. I PROMISE THOUGH, THEY DON'T HURT. FIND A COMFY POSITION IN THE BATHROOM TO INSERT IT AND ALL WILL BE WELL. I KINDA CROUCH ABOVE THE TOILET WITH KNEES BENT. SOME GALS SIT WITH LEGS OPEN AND SOME STAND AND PUT A LEG UP ON. FIND WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU.
thankyou all x to nahs07, your advice is really helpful, but I just want to clear things up. im not thinking about it just because my friends are, its because I am really worried about using tampons for the first time without my mum on holiday with incase it's really uncomfortable. and also, there are loads of boys going and im scared I will leak and they will find out :S
Don't take the pill to stop your period. Thats for old people who have like 5 periods a month. Let nature run it's course, periods suck, yes, but it's part of life. You are only 13, your period will only be a couple days anyway. Just take your pads/tampons with you and have fun on your vacation. If it's swimming you're worried about, use a tampon. I wear them in the pool.
I don't think she needs advising to go to the doctor...I think she's basically asking for an opinion, she will ultimately do what she wants to do. but knowing that there are people that support her doubts may help her make a more informed decision. and no not a doctor just a student nurse whose doing councilling as part of her degree...

oh for crying out loud, no one on here is a doctor, so they have absolutely no idea whether the pill will hurt you or not. Why dont you go see a doctor and find out what they think? You're going to have to see one to get the pill anyways, and if it is bad for you, they wont prescribe it!
