Is laser tv going to be better than plasma?

A buddy told me that some of the plasmas have been dropping in price from the threat of a new tv that uses lasers, is slimmer, and cheaper for a Hi-Def TV that is supposed to be less than two grand and have a better resistance to screen burn-in? Is this true or is he nuts?
