Will lemon juice make your skin tone change?

is it true lemon juice is acid and it could make your skin darker??I want to make my skin fair..so I heard that lemon juice is good to make skin fair..but ialso heard from someone else that lemon juice can make skin darker..which is true?

It would make your skin lighter...or at least that's what it does to fabric.
