I want to get into modeling, but where do I start?

Okay so Im 17 years old and want to get involved in the modeling industry but I don’t know how. Im 5’2 and the best for me out there due to my height is commercial or catalog modeling. I live in Austin Tx and is really hard to get involved in the modeling industry over here. Everyone that sees me asks me if Im a model and that I should really try to become one and get discovered somehow because of my talents.I love to model,dance and act ever since I was a young girl . Please anyone out there that has any kind of experience in the industry could you please give me some advice on where to begin thank you!

Requiem is right though. a lot of it is some sort of nude or damn near…that’s how you get A LOT of money anyway. But a lot of models can barely survive. Did you know that a cover shoot for Sports Illustrated only paid $125.00 for the WHOLE DAY of shooting? advertisements and stuff like that barely pay…it is not easy, especially now!

Im sure they alwasy need extras for movies & commercials my friend does that on her spare time but then again I live in Cali like an hour away from LA. but im sure yuo can find something like that around your area. I would think thats a good way to start also at your high schools if there are any plays you can act inn, umm try getting into commercials start off from the bottom and work yur way up you never know you might run into the right people. =]

a lot of local clothing stores are in need of models just ask the manager if they let people sign up to audition to model good luck <3

acidburn fyi thats not at all true.

I highly reccomend that you learn about the modeling industry in your area, educate yourself on basic terminolgy, find out about the photographers, and agents in your area. Maybe even try self model employment, a major tool you’ll need to get is a good set of photos after that you can send pics to agencies or jobs in your area.
