Oh I have heard this over and over around here 'going to quit school and get my GED'
Unless one is going into the military one must wait an entire year to go for their GED.
Do you think that most people who do not complete their high school education do eventually go for their GED?

When I was a junior in highschool I dropped out. By the time I was 17 I had my GED and was in college. I have just finished my first 2 years and am now on the road to fire academy to study to be a paramedic. I started college an entire year before my class and got a head start in my life.
So to answer your question...yes...people who drop out DO get their GED if they are motivated to. And no, you do not need to wait a year...the rule (in florida at least) is if you're under 18 you must take state approved classes until you are approved to take the test...

I dropped out at 17 and I got my GED at 17. Where I am from, about two years after I dropped out, they changed the rules that if you drop out of school, you cannot get your driver's license until you have your GED. If you already have your license, they take it away. My brothers dropped out and got their GED's, too. My family is just a bunch of drop-outs! My sister graduated, though. GO MELINDA!

Dear cmw4562,
Canada now has a new law that states you are not allowed to quit school till you are 18 making it an offence. They are also toying with the idea that if you do not attend school you will not be able to get your drivers licence. Of course you can imagine the stir this is causing. My experience has been that many do go back for their GED knowing that they will not and can not get a 1/2 decent job without it.
Sue...good luck
