How to tell if a toe is broken

I twisted my toe in a pool while I was swiming and it is purple red and blue my sister says it will be black and blue in a couple of days but I'd like to know now so I don't hurt it anymore

its also a good idea that you go to a doctor. because the longer you leave it for withut ptoper diagnoses and treatment the worse it can get. if it is broken then get to one right away, otherwise it could heal differently and even permanently face a different direction or something. so see a doctoer asap!

A broken toe no matter how small is still very likely to be acutely painful and very swollen.

The fact that your toe does not hurt badly but is swollen and bruised suggests that it is more likely to be a joint strain or inflammation than a fracture, although only an X-ray can tell for sure.
