How to make gun silencers?

Answer #1

I think a person should be able to make, or purchase a suppressor. However, if that person uses that suppressor in the commission of any crime the prison term should be the life or even the needle. Don’t take peoples 2nd amendment rights away let them do it to themselves.

silencers are NOT illegal is most states. You can usually buy one thru any licenced gun dealer, but you will have to pay a high federal tax on it. I just bought a suppressed/silencer for my walther p22, and paid $600 (200 for the silencer, 400 for the federal tax). Or you can do what I did for a couple years, and crumple up toilet paper and stuff it into a 2 liter bottle. Then cut a one inch hole on the other end, where the bullet will exit the bottle. Or just use a pillow.

I just got one for my AR15. It cost me $335 plus the $200 BATFE tax. If you choose to go the way of buying one from a Class 3 dealer it’s a lot less trouble than building your own. A dealer will walk you through the whole thing.

Steps to take. -Check to see that a suppressor is legal in your state/city.

  • Do reseach on model that are made for your caliber. (remember you can use a .45 suppressor on a 9m/m or .308 suppressor on a .223—the reverse is NOT true). -Having selected the make & model of suppressor that fits your needs, it’s time to contact your dealer and pay for your suppressor. -Go to have “passport” type pictures made. You’ll need two. -Take the paperwork that your dealer gave you down to your local Police Dept. and get the CLEO (Chief Law Enforcement Officer) to sign off on it. Don’t forget to get your fingerprint cards (2) filled in. -Check over all your paperwork to make sure that nothing is left out. -Put all the paperwork & pictures that your dealer told you to in an envolope along with your check for $200. and send it off to the BATFE.
  • Now is the hardest part. wait, Wait & WAIT. It may seem like it’s taking forever. In reallity it shouldn’t take more than about 60 days or so. Your dealer will call you when your paperwork comes back.

You can also go through the steps to build your own suppressor.

Provided that ownership of a suppressor is legal in your area. -Go to the BATFE website and order Form 922r, Form 1 and a set of fingerprint cards. I would order more than what is needed of all these. It’ll save you trouble if you make a mistake. -When the forms arrive fill them out per the instructions that comes with them. -As before mentioned, Go to see your CLEO and get a their sign off and your fingerprint cards filled out. -Get two PassPort type pictures -Place all the stuff that the instructions says to in an envolope along with the $200 and send it off to the BATFE. -Wait for the paperwork to return to you.

                                                             -WARNING!!!-

DO NOT MAKE SO MUCH AS ONE BAFFLE FOR YOUR SUPPRESSOR OR START ANY WORK ON IT UNTIL YOUR TAX STAMPED FORM 1 IS BACK IN YOUR HANDS.

Hope that this is helpful
