How much weight to lose and still be healthy?

Okay, I am 5'6 and 135 lbs. I know that I am overweight and I was wondering what a good goal weight would be because I want to have something to go for and I wouldn't want to lose more weight than would be healthy. Please tell me how much weight to lose, and my current burst of will power can be put to some good use!

Best thing to do is consult the 'body mass index' ratio for your specific height / weight / and age. If you lose too much fat, you are more susceptible to disease, since being too lean can have negative consequences.

Also, depending on how muscular you are, you'll need to lose more or less...I know, not a specific answer, but my gut call was 5-10 pounds at most - I'm about 5'6, and I weight around 131 right now, but I'm too skinny, and have been sick lately myself...having trouble eating with a high metabolism means that I lost muscle, which is never good.

Good luck ~thedude.

Yes, I tried the BMI and it says that anything down to about 103 lbs should be healthy for me.... I find that to be a bit low so I know I am going nowhere near that number ^_^

I think after seeing that I may go for a weight somewhere around 115-120, because I am a girl so I probably have a bit less muscle than you After all, spring is coming up and I do need a new bathing suit! If I keep this diet healthy and I keep doing a good job, let's hope I can be at my goal weight by about the end of June!

First of all, you are not overweight. I am 15, 5,5 and weight 130lbs. I recently lost 40lbs and feel great about myself. As long as your working out and keeping those calories in check, your just fine. You sound like a perfect weight for your height. I have a question for you: Are you really unhappy with your weight, or are you unhappy with yourself?
