I believe God is real. I'm a Christian so I believe that Jesus is the way to God. I'm an educated woman (a teacher) with a scientist husband - we read the 'New Scientist' magazine every week and have no problem with linking the scientific research you're talking about with our own experience of God.
My comments would be:
No one should be scared that science can disprove God. It can't, but that's not its point. The point is that science can discover new things and help people now - I see that as being well in line with what God wants for the world he made.
No one can actually 'prove' God either, outside of their own experience. That's not the point, either. I really couldn't 'prove' my husband to you - I can tell you about him, I could show you a photo, I could use my wedding ring and our two children as 'proof' but you haven't met him so you could genuinely argue that my evidence was not definitive proof that I am married to the guy. However, I know him and I know our history so I know he's real.
When the people here are talking about knowing God is real, it's that personal experience they are talking about. If their style of knowing God seems not for you, that's fine - God has made us different and if you got to know him you wouldn't be exactly the same as me, or as amblessed, or paco, or boredgirl123. But anyone can get to know him - it's not some kind of exclusive club. God made everyone and loves everyone, Jesus died for everyone - the chance to know him is there for each person.
Of course there is science involved in how we were created. But that does not mean that God does not exist.. Someone had to create science.. He knows all, so that means he is really smart, meaning he knows all there is to know about science.. Though we may not know it all, that is not our place... As long as we know enough it is fine.. well fine for me.. I believe in God and science.. sure we do know everything but that is just because we are imperfect and try too much...
I have lived my whole life as Southern Baptist and was beat as a child into early adult hood if I refused to go to church.I have MS and I have prayed and been prayed for and anointed with oil and baptised many times.I really believed deep in my heart that I would be healed but its not getting better and I sure wasnt healed.I know realize that all it was, was brain washing and people wanting something to believe in so much that they would worship a God that noone knows for sure exists. My family is holy rollers but as for me I denouce my religion because I know its bull.
Nebula: Actually Dinosaurs were in the Bible too...Behemoth has the following attributes according to Job 40:15-24
It “eats grass like an ox.”
It “moves his tail like a cedar.” (In Hebrew, this literally reads, “he lets hang his tail like a cedar.”)
Its “bones are like beams of bronze,
His ribs like bars of iron.”
“He is the first of the ways of God.”
“He lies under the lotus trees,
In a covert of reeds and marsh.”
Some bibles and study bibles will translate the word “behemoth” as “elephant” or “hippopotamus.” Others will put a note at the edge or bottom of the page, stating that behemoth was probably an elephant or a hippopotamus. Although an elephant or hippopotamus can eat grass (or lie in a covert of reeds and marsh), neither an elephant or a hippopotamus has a “tail like a cedar” (that is, a tail like a large, tapered tree trunk). In your kid’s dinosaur book you will find lots of animals that have “tails like a cedar.”
We would expect behemoth to be a large land animal whose bones are like beams of bronze and so forth, so whatever a behemoth is, it is large. A key phrase is “He is the first of the ways of God.” This phrase in the original Hebrew implied that behemoth was the biggest animal created. Although an elephant or a hippopotamus are big, they are less than one-tenth the size of a Brachiosaurus, the largest (complete) dinosaur ever discovered.[1] A Brachiosaurus could therefore easily be described as “the first of the ways of God.”---http://www.clarifyingchristianity.com/dinos.shtml---
Heres some facts I found and if you want to read the whole page you can go to http://www.gospeljohn.com/youngearth.htm
The Sun is shrinking at the rate of 5 ft/hr. The Earth is 93 million miles away from the Sun. In less than 20 million years, the Sun would have been so large that it would touch the surface of the Earth. Further, if the Sun had more mass, the gravity pull would be much larger and the Earth would have been sucked into the Sun long before 20 million years.
Short-period comets, like the Haley Comet in our solar system, whose life expectancy is only 10,000 years old, would have been blown apart by the solar winds years ago if they were older.
Absence of fossilized meteorites in different layers of strata on Earth proves that Evolution is a farse. According to evolution, different layers of strata were exposed for billions and billions of years, but only the top layers of the Earth have fossilized meteorites, and that in abundance.
The Moon is receding from the Earth every year. If the Earth were billions of years old, then the Moon would have been too close to the Earth. According to the inverse square law, the tides would have been so strong that everything would have died twice a day!
The Earth's magnetic field is decreasing half a life every 830 years. This magnetic field can't be more than 10,000 years; there is no way to reverse it.
Oil Pressure would have leaked out if the earth were billions of years old. Scientists can get garbage and turn into oil in a lab in 20 minutes.
The Earth slows down as it spins at a rate of a thousandth of a second. In a million years, the earth would have been spinning too fast for life on earth.
The current world population is 5½ billion. If we started with 8 people 4,000 years ago, this would give us a population of 5 or 6 billion.
Scientific proof of the Great Flood is elusive, not because there is not enough substantive evidence to prove its historicity beyond a reasonable doubt, but because much of the evidence is equivocal. That is, it can be reasonably interpreted in more than one way. “Proof” is evidence which demands a singular conclusion. Consequentially, we do not have scientific proof of the Great Flood per se. Rather we have a strong interdisciplinary scientific case for the Flood.
One line of evidence concerns the fossilized remains of marine life found atop every major mountain range in the world. Flood advocates (“diluvialists”) see the masses of dead sea-life found atop every major mountain range in the world as reasonable evidence that the planet’s surface was inundated by a global deluge, but not proof. Modern conventionalists interpret the same evidence to mean that ocean boundaries periodically shift, whereby dry land submerges and reemerges from the sea in a seemingly endless cycle of uplift, subduction, and erosion.
Another line of evidence concerns the global prevalence of sedimentary rock. The planet is covered in layer-upon-layer of sedimentary rock. These consist mostly of eroded, displaced, re-solidified sediments which were transported, sorted, and re-deposited in some sort of a fluid, typically water. These layers also contain of the fossilized remains of billions and billions of displaced dead things -- the fossil record. Diluvialists interpret the fossil record (billions of dead things buried in sediments laid down by water) as strong evidence for a global deluge. Conventionalists disagree, conjecturing instead that these layers and the fossils they contain accumulated slowly over long periods of time rather than quickly during (and after) a marine cataclysm.
A third line of evidence concerns the hundreds of flood legends preserved all over the world by somewhat isolated, indigenous cultures. Diluvialists believe these stories represent a shared primeval experience: the common ancestors of these divergent cultures survived a massive deluge and past record of the traumatic event down through successive progeny. Conventionalists believe these stories are purely mythological and their prevalence is coincidental.
These are just three pieces of the puzzle. None of the three (or any other piece of evidence) is enough to constitute proof of the Great Flood. But together they form a compelling interdisciplinary scientific case for the Flood of Noah’s day.

Sorry very long...
Although I have great respect for Dr. Hawking, and share the same opinion as he in regards to gods, the mere fact that he is super intelligent does not make him right. He doesn't appear to care about the subject and may not have investigated it at all.
All that's required to conclude there are no gods, is a straightfoward objective review of the evidence. There's nothing superhuman involved.
But you could actually prove your husband, unless you were lying and making up stuff. that's the point. God did not make everyone, evolution did. God isn't even a real concrete theory, all we have a book that's be proven wrong, many times so why should we believe that this God character even existed. Afterall Gods have been used for an explanation for unexplained or misunderstood things, so why should we assume there is even a God and sum it up as misunderstanings.
A few years back I asked the same question you did. And this is what I did. I pretty much prayed, God if youre real then reveal yourself to me. I just waited...Not even a month later I was learning a lot of really cool stuff like how the world began and moral law...For example...Picture looking down at our universe, and imagine erasing everything one at a time, til you get to the very last thing you see...Now erase that. Where did it come from? did it come from nothing??? or did it come from something?...The Big Boom or did something create it??? If you read in the bible youll also learn about all the prophecies. And still today they are still happening. I'll try to remember some of them off the top of my head...such as Jesus said that when he comes back again to take us to heaven that everyone will see Him. And we always think, Well how could everyone in the world see him at the same time??? THink about the technology that is out there today...We have internet and television. As soon as something is happening somewhere in the world everyone knows about it!! Its crazy! Also think of this too...Whenever people read the bible they think that it just happened one event right after the other. But actually the bible is based off of different events over thousands of years in the making. and they were on scrolls not just in books in so many different places all over the world. And guess what these events were about??...God...One being. Not of many gods but just one being...THese stories were all about the same thing...God...and how he sent his Son to save us. Oh yeah and another cool fact! Do you know the story about Noah's Ark? if you dont a good movie that raps it up for you is Evan Almighty hahaa its not exactly what the bible says but it gets the just of it. Well today if you go up to the top of a mountain and dig youll find fossils but not of mammals but of fish. And I know youll say O but that was millions of years ago...Actually I dont believe that the world is that old...I believe its only thousands of years old... You know how you can look deep in a cave and find those deep humps and scientists say that it take thousands and thousands of years to form those things(sorry forgot the word)...Well in a broken down underground subway(I think thats what theyre called) in the carts those same huge humps are growing there. and Im pretty sure thousands of years ago subways didnt exist. I hope I make since of all this... sorry if I dont...Im trying. But there is so much more to learn about our world and how God designed it and has every play in it. I definitely believe with all my heart mind and soul there is a God. ANd he loves us more than anything he has ever created...even for the ones who doesnt believe in him. Him bringing his son to earth to die for us just shows how much he loves us and how he would do anything to have us with him.
This is what I know to be true:
God being pure cannot even look upon sin - man, even in his very best state is a sinner - on judgement day, either: your sins are covered by the blood-shed sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross (salvation and only salvation - being a nice person isn't good enough - even at our very best, we are but filthy rags), and remembered no more or they are not (your sins are not covered) - where God's great love comes into play is, He provided a WAY (Jesus) for us not to perish and live in Heaven with Him (He certainly didn't have to do this but did because He loved us so) - if you read carefully John 3:16, this is exactly what it says - each person will either accept or reject, you must decide for yourself and yes, it's so important, it has eternal consequences - He Loves you and wants you to accept God's free gift to man - Jesus.
More often than not, in today's society, are people who ask this question. Is there a God? Christians firmly believe this due to faith. Pagans believe in multiple gods and goddesses. Science states that God is a myth. Religions state that science is wrong. Arguments ensue. So, who is right? Is anyone right? We all evolved from a single celled organism. That is proven factual scientific proof. So, where did that single celled organism come from? The big bang theory states that there was an explosion that happened and existence just popped into being there. No God. No higher form of life. Darwinism states that evolutionary processes happen to weed out the weaker of a genus or species so that it may survive. If we did evolve from apes why do they still exist then?
So, is there a God? Christians will tell you that there really is a God or supreme being. Science will try to disprove the ideologies that are instilled in The Bible.
I believe, firmly, that there is something greater out there. As to the ideologies that religion has tried to instill into society throughout the dawning of Catholicism I am against. If there is a greater being of a supreme nature that truly does exist I don't think we need to worship said being. That it does not control our lives and we, solely, are responsible for our decisions we make or choose not to make throughout our short spans of life. No one can explain exactly why the cells that form a baby divide the way they do. How it's possible. Science will give you thousands of reason but they can't explain the miracle of birth. That's why it is considered a miracle. Science can't explain it.
I know I haven't really answered this question with much clarity, but you have to take this into consideration. No one can really answer this question. People who try to, (and I really emphasize the word try), are going on what they personally believe. Not factual evidence to present in defense of their arguments. No one can truly answer this question with an unbiased perspective because everyone who wants to answer this question has some form of belief, whether that belief be for or against the thoughts of Creationism. Yes, people can quote scripture from the Bible. However, no one can prove or disprove what is in the Bible so you can't really use that as a defense in this argument. No matter what you want to say in defense of using the Bible in this instance ask yourself this question. Can you prove to me, beyond a reason of a doubt, that EVERYTHING in the Bible has happened and is truth? No, you can't. To say otherwise makes you a fool.
So, to conclude this little tirade I have gone through is this. I am not defending nor am I attacking religious theorums and philosophies. I am just saying that no one can really answer this question. If a person could prove that God really did exist then that person should get a Nobel Peace Prize for the proof that God exists. But, no one ever will.
Nothing finite can be infinite (eternal). Since the universe is made of finite things (matter, time, space), it therefor must be created by something without time (timeless), thus making it eternal. If it is eternal, it must be infinite, and if its the Creator, it must be God.
The universe changes, and time is the measure of change. How many changes have happened before right now? If you claim an infinite number of changes (which is impossible because you can not have an infinite amount of finite things), it is a logically impossible to conclude we could ever have reached this moment in time. In a world of cause and effect (which we live in), there can not be an infinite regress (an infinite amount of cause and effect reactions to get to a certain cause).
Allow me to rephrase. Imagine that the Earth orbits the sun every 365 days (it does). Now, on Mars, a year is much longer than an Earth year, being 687 Earth days (basically double). So, for every 2 years of Mars, Earth has circled the sun approximately 4 times. Now, imagine that this has been going on for eternity. By your logic, they would both have circled the sun the exact same amount of times, because its been going on forever (this is clearly impossible). This shows the impossibility of an infinite regress, whereby there could not have been an infinite amount of (x) before right now, in a finite universe based on time.
Now, back to God. God exists outside of time, in Eternity. God created time, and time is irrelevant to Him. God is Eternal, not created. Firstly, you have 2 choices; either everything came from nothing (which is impossible), or something always existed and created us. You have no other choice. Take a moment to think about that, remembering that it can not exist in time, that would be impossible. Time can not be eternal.
This thing that always existed would be considered Eternal, having transcended time, space, and matter, being everlasting, having always existed. If you argue this is impossible, I would argue the contrary; it is impossible for this Eternal 'thing' to not exist, because the alternative is that nothing existed, which could only produce nothing. So, something always existed, and is therefor Eternal.
Now, for something to be Eternal, it can not consist of time, because time must have had a beginning. We exist in a universe of causality, so an infinite regress is impossible; there could not have been an infinite amount of time before right now, because we never would have reached this moment in time. That means time had a beginning, and whatever created time exists without time, beyond time, in timelessness; Eternity.
So, this Eternal Creator, created time, and the universe. This Eternal Creator clearly is extremely powerful, because the energy of the trillions of stars in the known universe were created by this Creator. And obviously, the Creator is extremely intelligent, having created an intelligent being such as mankind and a world in which to populate with it.
There are people out there who are quite powerful
some so powerful they can't even use electricity(long exlanation, lets just say magick electricity don't go well together).
It's all depends on how far you're willing to open your mind.
Faith is the key to everything.
There are plenty of scientific theoris(all of them kinda sucky).
It's up to you what path you'll take.
well those are your beliefs
I am personally agnostic
but more like atheist
but I am not completely sure god doesn't exist
it's just that some things he/she does makes no sense
and people who read the bible and say they understand it are probably actually more confused than you are
it's just my opinion
