How do I talk my parents into letting me pierce my tongue?

I’ve craved it for about 6 months now and I’ve researched it A LOT so I know the risks and everything and I still have my heart set on it. When I asked my parents about it they said that they don’t want me to have that ‘image’ and that they’d never hire someone with a tongue piercing. They’ve said that if I get it done then I have to move out, I’m 15 going on 16 and I don’t want to move out yet! But I really want it done, it’s not an impulse move or anything so I don’t see the problem. I’ve promised them that I am going to do it in the future - GUARANTEED so why can’t they just let me do it now, sooner rather than later. Help? I need more reasons.

lads shes sayin ‘how do I talk to my into letting her’ not advice of gettin it…I really want to aswell I havent mentioned a word to it to my parents cause im 13 and like there completely against it even if I move out they wont let me I think as scary as it is just.. … … sit one of your parents down ask them not to get angry because you know they care that’s why there not letting you get one and also say that its the most painful piercing and fastest heeling piercing you can get even doctors say it try to say it calmly because you dont want them to switch tell her/him all the good things about it and not the bad…if they do switch say calmly that you only want to understand why and your being honest because your my parents (that always works):):)

I have to agree that your parents are right and if you had to choose between a peircing and and having a stable home, I’d think you’d make the wiser choice and not get it pierced. BUT if its something you really want, what I would do is be the best I could possibly be until my sixteenth birthday. I mean like straight A’s in school, keep the house clean, try to stay home as much as possible, you know stuff like that. Then when your birthday rolls around ask you parents if thats what you could have as a birthday present and mention how you think youve earned it. but whatever you do, dont go it behind there back. hope this helps. good luck!

‘so why can’t they just let me do it now, sooner rather than later. ‘

Because they are in charge of raising you the best that they are able to prepare you for the world. This means keeping you as healthy and safe as they deem fit. If all the free and willingly given room, board, emotional support, love, and attention you are receiving and will continue to receive is worth less to you than having a ridiculous piece of metal in your mouth, by all means, continue to disrespect and disregard their wishes.

Look past yourself and your own fleeting needs for two seconds and realize the position you are putting them in. When you are living on your own, you may do and act and put holes in however and whatever you wish. For now, your world is not going to collapse because you can’t immediately engage your fashion whims.

I think if it is between getting your tonge pierced and being kicked out, you should obviously wait. I dont know your parents so only you would know if they hold true to that. I was like you and wanted my tonge pierced when I was your age, I got it done behind my parents back and luckily my parents were not too bad with it, but like I said I dont know your parents and how they would react. I haven’t had my piercing in a few years and I honestly dont miss it.

well I think of it as a younger thing to do, and I’ve told them I’d take it out before I went into a serious job or anything, but that you can get clear retainer thingies anyway so people don’t know it’s there.

they would definately hold true to their word, my older sister got kicked out when she was 11 to go live with my dad, then she cam back but got kicked out again for good 2 years or so ago. she’s 17 now

Your parents are only trying to help you. As annoying as it is, they’re right. Some places won’t hire people with certain piercings or tattoos. A lot of people judge the suitability of someone by personal appearance, along with the rest.

If you definitely will get the piercing when you’re older, though, why not wait until then? There’s no need to rush if it’s a definite thing.
