I've always found that by challenging your fears, that it is the best way to get over them. It takes a lot of hard work sometimes, but maybe by going on them, you can get to be a little more comfortable with them. Start with the small ones, though, and work your way up gradually. Don't just jump on the biggest one!

Take care.

When I was a kid I was afraid of almost all amusement park rides.

In college I went to Six Flags Over Texas with a bunch of friends. Back then the hottest new rollercoaster was called Shock Wave. It goes over 100' feet up and has two loops, one right after the other. Everyone else was going on it and I wasn't going to be the only person too afraid to go on it. I was basically shamed into going on it.

I expected to be in sheer terror the whole ride but surprisingly I loved it. I was scared (I do have a fear of heights) but the excitement overshadowed the fear. As soon as we got off we were back in line to ride it again. I've been a rollercoaster enthusiast ever since.

Since then rollercoasters have gotten bigger, faster, and more complex. I rode Shock Wave for old times sake last time I went to Six Flags and now it seems like a gentle ride to me.

My advice would be to try one of the older rollercoasters that isn't as intense as the latest ones. After you ride a few times you should be ready to try a newer one.

The more you go on them, the less scared you'll be.

gogetta103 I know how you feel...what you have I think is a phobia...you get nervous before going on even if you know that everytime you do something you are fine, I'm the same way..I have IBS and I get nervous about going out places even though my friends say I'll be fine and my parents say I'll be fine. Here's another example...I go to the Truro exibition with my parents and best friend every year, I end up having a great time in the end, but just before we go (like a week or so) I keep thinking negative things like...will I have to constanly go to the bathroom what will happen if I go on this ride. But I work myself up to much that I will get scared. So my advice is..try to think about somehthing else because if you constanly think about the problem then it's more likely to happen.

If your fear only arises before you get on them, it's probably from the noises the roller coasters make while you're standing in line. All the screaming and chains clanking...I can see how you'd be scared. It sounds weird, but wear earplugs while you're in line so you can't hear anything. You're most likely letting the noises amp up your anxiety.

the first roller coaster I ride I'm always really nervous but once it's done I'm fine for the rest of the day. maybe you just have first roller coaster jitters? you should just start with the small ones and work your way up.
