How deep should a cut be for stitches?

I accidently dropped a knife on my toe and I think that I kneed stiches.

If you think you need them, then you probably do. If you have not gone to emergency in time to get stitches try making your own. Take a simple bandage and cut in small strip lengthwise. You should get about 4 or 5 depending on the size of the bandage. Pull the cut closer together and place the bandage strips widthwise closing the cut. See your doctor for cleaning.

there is no clear cut definition...
If there is much tissue loss such that the ends of the cut cannot meet easily ,stitches may be needed...It is also needed if you are bleeding profusely...
I dont think you need it anyway
