Here's a thought for all believers.

Asked by tinkpixi18 about 1 year ago, 7 answers.

I'm going to try to go 90 days w/out getting into worldly things. Without reading magazines,W/o gossip/listening to people who like to do these things and only have conversations about non sinful things.Who else would like to try this? I really think...

it'll help me get closer to God and feel more like a friendship to read about him and learn about him rather than a chore.I'm also cutting out the NEWS!!!

I don't understand.
Is this a question?
No I wouldn't do anything to get closer to 'god' because I'm a straight out atheist.
Good luck..?

Yes, to most of your ideas. But why cut out the NEWS? That's the only way we Christians have of finding out who to pray for outside of our own family and friends. If you get this before you cut off from the world, I heartily recommend you keep in touch with God's world - He needs you in it. Not the gossip or the trash, but the real problems? Stay tuned to what God is tuned to...

The great reformed preacher Karl Barth once said that sermons should be written with the Bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other. As the principal author of The Barmen Declaration, he was the intellectual leader of the German Confessing Church, the Protestant group that resisted the Third Reich.

I found that quote from a guy's blog (he's a Christian from California). I Googled that phrase I remembered and this guy's blog came up first. So my point is that the news is really important. By 'news' I mean a real assessment of what is happening in the world today, rather than just gossip and horror, which you're probably wise to avoid.

I don't know what kind of news is the best for us these days. The Christian blogger was recommending the Internet as the best source now, and says he prays using the website '10X10', which gives 100 words and 100 pictures which are the most talked-about in 'real' news around the world. That avoids the local 'horror' type news and the gossip, and maybe could give us a real glimpse of the world through God's eyes. I'll give it a try for prayer!
