take something, like an eraser or foam and make it small and just put it on the post. Don't worry about how it looks if you really don't want it to close up.

Or,another option for you,is you can take that clear fishing line stuff,and put that through the hole.Girls in my gym class do that so that it won't close up,and you can't tell.
