Jesus made this promise in John 14:27: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives to you. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid. Notice it says He is giving us His peace, not a peace that we have to conjure up or manufacture.
This peace that He gives us is a tangible force, an anchor in stormy seasons. It goes way beyond that happy feeling when all is well. It's far deeper than the feeling we get when the baby finally falls asleep; and, my friend, it is far richer than any fleeting emotion we will ever experience.
It is the peace of God, God's peace. How many would agree that God is not fretting about our economy? How many would agree that God is not lying awake at night trying to figure out how He will get your car fixed? God is at peace; and the same peace He walks in, He is giving us. So, how do we receive it and ultimately benefit from it?
In Jeremiah 33:3, God entreats us to call on Him and He will answer us. His peace, beloved, is only a breath away. I know it seems simplistic, but just because we cannot explain something does not mean it is less true.
In Philippians 4, His word encourages us to take our anxiety, our worries and our pains to Him in prayer with thanksgiving, and the peace of God will transcend all understanding and will guard our hearts and minds. I love that word guard; it is a military term. It means that the peace of God will set up a garrison around our heart and protect it from the imminent trials and pains of life.
This is exactly what I have experienced countless times. You can't tell me it doesn't exist. It's too lateā¦I am a recipient of this glorious gift. The gift of peace.
