Our seperate entity the conscious mind

my own BONSAI tree!!! :D! Asked by athleta4life 2 months ago, 7 answers.

What happens to the conscious mind when you die???

We can all agree we have a conscious mind, that feels, makes choices, its who we are. And who we are, is what controls the machines that our bodies are.

We are not our bodies. Our bodies are ours....

And so we must be a different entity inside these bodies of ours that we can agree might be our conscious.

So what happens to our conscious once we die, once our bodies return to the earth???

Your mind and body are one and the same: Your mind is an artefact of the functioning of your brain. How can it be anything else, given that interfering with one's brain has corresponding affects on your mind?

***Your mind and body are one and the same: ***

I am just reminded what I read a few years back in book Titled The FBI Files. It talks about a technique called remote viewing where psychologists are trained to sit at one place and see things that are several kilometers away. How would you explain this? There are many stories of people describing their life, names of their relatives of previous birth. In many case there descriptions are found to be accurate. How do you explain this? How do you explain the abilities of psychics? How would you explain the claims of people who have outer body experience? How would you explain all this is the brain is all there is? Or may be you think all of them are lying.

I don't have to, because it's pseudoscience - it's never been demonstrated under controlled conditions - and every attempt to demonstrate it has shown that the participants don't know anything they wouldn't know through mundane means.

***How do you explain the abilities of psychics? ***

Again, I don't have to, because nobody has ever demonstrated under controlled conditions that they're actually psychic.

***How would you explain the claims of people who have outer body experience?***

They had an experience, but none of it happened outside their brain. We hallucinate for extended periods each night - we call it dreaming - and this isn't much different.

James Randi, a prominent skeptic, runs the JREF Million Dollar Challenge. Anyone who can demonstrate, under controlled conditions, that they have a paranormal ability will win a million dollars. There have been many applicants, but nobody has ever demonstrated a paranormal ability.

MUST, huh? The 'must' you're using is not objective, is used out of fear of your own mortality.

***so what happens to our conscious once we die, once our bodies return to the earth???***

Nobody knows.

I agree with BlazeYDh. Heaven and Hell are here on earth it is called life. But I dont agree with, some of us are born into a world of hell and aren't able to escape it while others are able too. I think everyone is able to escape it if they really wanted too. it is up to them to decide what they want their lifes to be like. Just because you were born into a life of hell doesnt mean you need to live that way. Like he said life is what you make of it. So make the best of it you only get one.

Consciousness is a brain function. That's why it goes away when you are asleep or on certain drugs. If it were a constant independent entity, it would always be present, but it isn't, so that idea is easily shown to be false.

Since consciousness is a brain function, and since brain functions cease when you die, your consciousness simply ceases when you die. It doesn't go anywhere, it just stops.

I was recently in a car accident, and although I never lost consciousness, my mind was not there. I do not remember being hit or going to the hospital in an ambulance. I figure death will probably be like that. The whole thing is a total blank to me. My friend told me I was still awake through the whole thing and even worried about combing my hair. I figure what happened to my conscious mind that day will also happen to it when I die. It won't be there.
