Hamster questions

Ok..I got a little Dwarf Hamster today..I called him Hammond

A few questions..

1. Is it ok for the hamster to be near my dog..will my dogs barking frighten the hamster everytime? or will it eventually get used to it and be ok with it

2. Is...

there any one type of bottle best for its water..I got a free one with th cage but its leaking so much that it is now empty..after about 4 hours :P ..and its the one with the bal bearing..should I just buy another one with a ball bearing as this one might be a broken one.

3. how long do hamsters live for?

4. Do you think hes ok..when we got him in his cage he just sat there staring into space for 5 minutes and didnt move..then we went into the tube and had slept there for about 4 hours only moving to go to the opposite side of the tube..?? Is it normal

I wud never let my hampster near my dog hes probley eat him and one time when my dog barked near my hampster he was like in shock for like a day.
instead of a water bottle you cud try using a water dish they work fine but with the water bottle thing it just all depends on the bottle your using if its cheap I've found they can leak alooot!
depends on the hampster and how they are treated I treated mine realy good and he lived about 4 years but I think I've heard they usualy live like 2 , 3 years.
and that is ok my hampster sleeps a lot the reason urs was probley just starin off into space was new atmosphere and was probley frightened

Great advice above. I agree to keep him away from the dogs when he's out of his cage. In the cage he MIGHT get used to them but give him time.

They mostly sleep in the day and are active at night.

Hes out and about now..running in th wheel...oh I think hes fallen asleep in the wheel LOL..

My dog has been sniffing round Hammonds Cage lol..everytime he moves shes like following him lol...I think shes starting to get used to the idea..hopefully she will be ok with him lol.

Argh..we didnt realise the cage didnt come with a bed..going to have to go buy one like tomorrow or something..we saw a nice little elephant one..its so cute lol..

You can find new water bottles at Walmart, that one is broken.

Hamsters need adjustment time, and they sleep in their tubes sometimes to feel secure.
