What's the difference between goth and emo?

What is the difference between a goth and an emo? And: How do *you* notice the difference by looking at them?

the thing is goths don't really like emos as they sort of copy them!!look the same but wear different jeans...tight= emo...baggy= goth. simple.

well usally goth people wear all blk and chains and thingy most like heavy metal bands, and emo lol they usally wear make up and have loongish hair in the front and wear tight pants and those stupid big sunglass hahaha

theyre exactly the same except goths are baggy and emos are tight. (in the litteral sense)

emo: well I know a bit of emo since I am considered one. depressed. cuts. tight clothing. copied goths. emotional. sits in corners. dark clothing. most are bi or gay. bangs that cover the face. eyeliner. peircings ect ect. typical emo.

okay now this is what an actual goth is:
a goth is someone that wants to be different. no they do not worship satin. they are christians ect ect. some may not have a religion. they people that are actually very nice if you see past your stupid geralization. they not insane because they wear chains and big combat boots and black. they are normal people. sick of you. stupid people and their stupid labels.

emo: we are not people that cut. sure some do. most of us don't. we wear what we want. who cares if we tight clothing. its what we find comfortable. no not all are bi or gay. we hate to be labeled. no we are not emotional. thats BS. we can be just as happy. sorry for listening to music thats not mainstream.

there's lots of differences between emo and goth according to you people.
but two things they have in common is that they are human and hate being labeled.

to funadvice: wondrous answer. now..let's hope you are not referring to* me* when you say 'there's lots of differences between emo and goth according to *you people*. ' Because though we may not want to be labeled, we are..and I have been 'Goth' for a good 15-17 years and long accepted that fact even though I also don't like labels. I wished to know how the others see 'us' and that was the point of my questions. And labels are needed in the case of queries ..especially on the net. You can't say 'So,about those people in black...?' and expect the average person to discern what it is you mean to describe when society long holds labels on 'those people in black'. Not to mention on others who are labeled.

Goth: am goth for only 9 years now ...I didnt chooz 2 be one ..I just somehow grew up to be one ..and I wouldnt have ever asked for more ...I love being goth I love being who iam because it means am F* different from all other lozerz that are trying too hard to fit into a world that rejected them ages ago ...

now goth : is people that just want to be known 4 who they are want to be different want to be let alone they are people that are gifted 2 c the beauty in the dieing flower people that can feel the beauty of the night and its hunting dark ..they are people that exprese their feeling through art ..their art because its the only thing that undrstands them and showsz who they really are ...they might look a lil scary ..they might push you away stimes their art maybe 2 dark and brutal stimes to like but they are just people with tonz of emotions rage love and want ..a want to be recognized in this copycat world ...

emo:they can be the cutest thing on earth ..mo are taken from goth ofcourse obviously ..the might look kindda the same to ignorant want to beez people they might fel the same but they are so not emo is more about calmer and um cute and kiddish when it comes to goth ...I dont think anyone should descripe emo as drk ..because it might be sad it might be full of emmotions and hurting but it doesnt mean they are dark ...and btw emo is emotional and believe it or not people their are tonz of other emotions other than sadness ..so yes emo people are humen that can laugh enjoy their time just like anyotherz like goth as well ...
they are just not as deep dark as goth not as DEEP as goth ...

will thats what I think ..I dated and fell inlove with an emo person 4 more than 7 years and I am goth ...so I just want everyone to know that completely respect both ..I just want a you lozers outthere 2 STOP F* MIXING BETWEEN EMO AND GOTH ...

well... theres not much difference really. the main difference is the fashion. emos usally wear skinny jeans, tight t-shirts and tight, colourful hoodies. goths usally wear baggy stuff, thats mostly black but sometimes with a bit of colour. theres many types of emos and goths. there are some goths who dont look like goths and some emos who dont look like emos. with emos I find you get fashion-ests (who follow the emo fashion), music-ests (who follow the emo music), mind-ests (who are emo in their mind)...

u guys are free and have nothing to do other than writting these stuipd comments. common what is the diffrence between goth and emo, both of them are styles and no one can say that this is better than this or that is better than that because it is just your point of view and you can just say I preffer this on that.

well, if you are talking about the 'scenes' themselvs, goth and emo could not be more difrant. they were both origionally music genres that eventully evolved to include a certin type of fashion. the music in each genre is nothing alike (just research it). But if you mean the fashion, truthfully they are extremly difrent from each other too. the 'goth' fashion usually includes more (for lack of better words)dressy or fancy clothing that draws it's influences from the rennesance or victorian eara. and emo is usually more causual elements that (also for lack of a better term)are more cutesy. with the exception of emo (at least in my oppinion)looking verry simmilar to gothic lotila I don't really know how you could get the two confused.

Emo people cut themselves to focus on the physical pain and forget about *emo*tional pain in they're lives, and they dress in all black/dark purple.

Goth people Always wear black/dark purple and usually dark makeup. Most goths wear dark sweatbands as well.
Goths worship the devil and take pleasure in pain.

I'm one I been one for 4 years I'm not always upset nor I cut myself I have many emotions such as love and happiness I love bright colors and dark colors the music I like is rock any type I aslo love sad love song or love songs I write poetry I look punk/emo I love the piano and roses im really sensitive and sweet to people I actually love helping others I still do get depress but for my brother's death and much more pain I suffer but its mostly fine since I have a girlfriend I feel more love though I like being dark at times I don't hate goths at all I love them I just think there wonderful people so are emos just normal humans just different I ways but other than that I love them I have goth friends and emo friends some do worship the devil some don't but w/e its them I don't worship the devil at all im a god's lover and always will be no matter what.
