God's will and the republican national convention

Whiteboard portrate Asked by filletofspam about 1 year ago, 7 answers.

Stewart Shepard digital media director of Focus on the Family called on Christians to pray for rain during Democratic presidential candidate Barak Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in order to disrupt it.

As we all know...

Barak Obama's acceptance speech went on without any rain disruptions.

Now we have Hurricane Gustav that that actually has disrupted the Republican National Convention.

Do Christians interpret this as God's will to intervene in our election and help elect Barak Obama?

spam, spam, spam, you've forgotten how prayer works.

When you pray for something, and it comes to pass, it was your prayer being answered. Whe you pray for something, and it doesn't happen, well, it's all part of his plan. When you pray for something, and the opposite happens, that's just god allowing Satan to test you. So regardless of outcome, remember to tithe!

do you honestly think a true Christian would pray for badwill?? That's not what Jesus is about.

I think we need to realize that in 1988 the Republican party began to hi-jack popular Christianity in our country to the point that people get the words conservative and Christian confused. The truth is not all conservative values are Christian and not all Christian values are conservative.

Disrupting a convention in an open air stadium might be some big-mouth's way of trying to get his candidate to win the election, but most Americans conservative, liberal, Christian , Jew, Hindu, Muslim, Wiccan, etc. are much much smarter than that.

As for Hurricane Gustov, all of the Christians I know have been praying for days that the storm will have a much lesser impact on the city of New Orleans than did Katrina. And these same people are not that concerned about a convention. Again, it is the Media (in this case Focus on the Family) who has confused real Christian value with winning an election.

May God bless and save the people of Louisiana, protect them from the storm and the flood, and the people of the USA decide the election. In Jesus name... AMEN.

I agree with much of your post except that I believe the Republican Party allowed itself to be hi-jacked by the Christian right. As the years rolled along, the Christian right was viewed as an untapped voting pool and the Republican Party began pandering to the Christian right's hot button topics. Abortion, homosexuals, family values, etc. The Party is now firmly in bed with them and I believe is having misgivings about the association.
