Fellas: what is your say about anorexia/bulimia?

so seductive Asked by alesha_aliyah_khan 11 months ago, 38 answers.

I am aiming this question at the guys in general.

Reason being: I thought I'd carry out a little survey to see what men have to say about girls/women who go to the extent of anorexia/bulimia to look prettier.

So do you find girls/women that are so underweight attractive?

What does attract you in a girl/women.

Thanks a lot for helping out, appreciate it

so a few guy told me I was fat.(I was 5'9 and weighed 145 -see picture against brick wall-)

I'm not one for caring about what people think of me but that hurt.

I felt like I would do what I needed to not be fat becuase I thought I'd never be loved.

I started eating very small amounts and occasionally vommited but I didn't know it was called anorexia or bulemia I thought I was doing something good for my health.

when I started it almost made my self esteem worste because I felt like a hypocritical peice of sh*t to even consider something like that.

many people think im just fit.

my life has always been out of control nothing ever went right the only thing I could control was my weight and I felt if I got thin it would make up for being ugly.

you guys always say 'the sexiest thing about a woman is confidence' but how much confidence can a woman have when you guys drool over the 'fit' girls that aren't just fit they're starving.

we are bombarded with magazines saying perfectly thin women are fat and that straving women are beautiful.

we hear what you say about the 'fat' girls.

and no not all of you are this way but frankly most of you are and you don't even know it.

I weight 120-125 pounds and am nearing 5'10 are you fuc king happy now!!

I look like the girl on the magazine now except I don't spend my time having fun and enjoying life, I spend it passing out and vommiting.

I have been trying to gain weight but I can't hold down food.

you want confidence ehh?

then stop jugding us.

stop staring at the girl you call fit.

stop calling tyra banks fat,

and 'here2tellthetruth' better shut the f*ck up because you don't understand what we go through every day of our lives.

the end.

there's a fine line between underweight and looking fit. I think for people who suffer from anorexia or bulimia, that line is severly blurred so they can't tell the difference. I don't believe any guy actually finds girls or women who purposely make themselves underweight unhealthy so much as they associate being thin with being fit. fit is what's appealing.

personally, I don't find it pretty or cute or attractive or what have you. for me, a large part of what's attractive is someone who has confidence in themselves and is comfortable in their own skin. its such a rare thing to find in someone that its really become a treasure. and I'm not saying I don't look for physically appealing aspects and that they aren't important, but when I look at someone whose underweight and I watch things on tv about people who suffer from these things, its a red flag that they're so uncomfortable with themselves that they take extreme measures to the point where its nearly fatal. that's not attractive by any means.

personally I typically do not think heavier women are attractive. almost always I am more attracted to thinner women then I am heavier women. maybe that is because I am thinner I don't know. but with that being said I would never want to date a girl who was anorexic or bulimic. personally I think that starving yourself is pretty discusting. it is ok to only eat really healthy foods and eat very small portions which I know many girls do but not letting yourself eat, and or throwing up what you eat I think is gross and I would not be attracted to a women if I found out she had one of these terrible conditions. I would definitly try to help her but I don't know if I could be attracted to her if she was either anorexic or bulimic

Example, to what extent should they be slim?

What attracts me to a girl/woman?

-her smile
-her eyes (not eye makeup)
-her personality (as someone else said about Bo Derek in '10' - she may have looked like a 10, but when she opened her mouth and you found out what she was about, she was more like a 2 or 3) (I didn't think she looked like a 10 anyway!)

I like natural to a great extent. I don't like 'too much' makeup, too much eyeliner, and I hate fake boobs! Small boobs rock! (of course I like full ones and saggy ones too. 007.com has non-sexual boob photos)

the main thing that attracts me to a girl/woman is Who She Is! Her smile, her disposition, the way she carries herself... someone who is not loud, pushy, or obnoxious. Sometimes girls post that they think they're not pretty enough and ask how to be prettier. I always recommed to smile, be clean and neat, and be a friend to others (not a doormat or overly friendly, but really caring about someone). If a girl does that, then she will be pretty.

also, aaliyah, I do not find girls/women that are so underweight attractive.

A healthy woman may be slim and trim, but not skinny. women are supposed to have curves anyway.

anorexia and bullemia are indicative of emotional, personal, or psychological issues. A and emotinally stable person with a healthy mind and a healthy body would no be underweight, nor would they want to be.

Alright well honestly I think the idea of being anorexic or bulimic are kinda stupid.. because doing something like that isnt worth looking skinny. and plus, its not healthy.

but girls/women that are underweight are not attractive to me

what can attract me is her looks, but mainly her personality. I wouldnt want someone to be extremely skinny to the point when you hug them you can feel their ribcage. thats unattractive and also a turn off. a woman for me is just someone smart, who doesnt care about their looks and doesnt care about how other people think of them. for them to be confident in them self.

In line with many of the above comments, I believe that anorexia and bulimia are the result of unhealthy obsessions as to what constitutes attractiveness. The mass media portrays the skinny or underweight girl/woman as the ideal and people then begin to emulate this model. While emulation in itself is not bad, the reasons for doing so and the repercussions need to be looked at. Thus, if a lady (or man, but they're not the subject of this question) wants to appear attractive, she looks at those who are shown to be so, or agreed to to be so, nowadays almost synonymous and the start of psychological problems occurs. The women in movies in magazines are just that, an ideal an image, many of them with wonderful personalities and other qualities unfortunately never focused upon. Since the ideal is what exists in your mind, you continue to diet, exercise and perhaps even use drugs to get to what eventually is a dangerous weight condition. I would say that the pressure on women is great and I understand how the problems with the above disorsders begin. Yes, it's easy to say that they shouldn't act like slaves of fashion and other less flattering terms, until we realize that all human beings want happiness and acceptance and that conformity goes a long way to creating this. In sum I would say that it's wonderful to talk about personalities and inner beauty as the way to look at things, but then it's time everyone from kindergarten teachers to executive directors stopped paying lip service to them and started showing an appreciation for the true people who inhabit the bodies that are anyway a gift from our Creator.

Well to the person above bman101, just as a joke..you do realise you can see almost everyones bones, either in their hand, neck, cheeks, ears, knees, wrists, feet, necks, collarbones, ankles, maybe not ribs. So have fun finding a girl with no bones showing.. :D but most girls do not become anorexic because they think a boy will fancy them because of their disorder

I am a bulimic (used to be an anorexic) and I have a boyfriend who seems to really like me. I tried so much to stop for him but I failed. He doesn't know yet aabout my eating disorder. I am just afraid I'll loose him and as ep314 says, what if he finds me gross and not attracting afterwards? Should I tell him anyway?

p.s. my eating disorder didn't start because I wanted to be beautiful, but because my life was very much out of control and food was the only thing I COULD control.

Answered by fau on Jan 19, 2008, 06:45AM

Beauty standards are gimped. Don't trust the mainstream idea of a dreamgirl. I find many a bit overweight girls attractive as I do with thin girls but it's VERY disgusting if you are underweight. Bulimia, anorexia etc etc. diseases only tell about your crappy self-esteem and about that that you aren't quite sane.

During WWII, certain Germans were hung for creating conditions that forced those in concentration camps to die through lack of food.

Why on earth would any guy like the look of someone that actually chooses forced starvation which in extreme cases will cause a long and painful death?

There is a big difference to someone who takes care of their body and keeps slim to someone who has a serious eating disorder to the extent that their bones are showing through their skin.

This is a mental health problem not a diet, and one that can generally only be overcome with professional support.

Those that say it is a life choice and are only harming themselves are one thing, those pro ana/mia people who actively encourage others to harm themselves in this way is totally unethical and bordering on abuse as far as I am concerned.

DO YOU PREFER FAT GIRLS OR SKINNY GIRLS?

Then all of the responses saying 'I like skinny girls, eww fat is gross', make the larger girls feel like sh!t. And everyone saying 'eww, skinny girls look disgusting' make the skinny girls feel like sh!t.

People can't really judge anyone because theyre overweight/underweight unless they've been through what these girls are going through themselves.

Hi cupcakes999,

If you go back to the original question, the member asked:

'So do you find girls/women that are so underweight attractive?' (within the catagory of anorexia/bulimia)

Please don't confuse 'skinny' girls with dangerously thin ones that are sufferring from the mental disorders commonly known as anorexia/bulimia.

My reply would to the members question would be that I find girls that are seriously below their BMI grossly unnatractive.

I stand by my answer that I gave to this question a few weeks ago which is:

'During WWII, certain Germans were hung for creating conditions that forced those in concentration camps to die through lack of food.

Why on earth would any guy like the look of someone that actually chooses forced starvation which in extreme cases will cause a long and painful death?

There is a big difference to someone who takes care of their body and keeps slim to someone who has a serious eating disorder to the extent that their bones are showing through their skin.

Those that say it is a life choice and are only harming themselves are one thing, those pro ana/mia people who actively encourage others to harm themselves in this way is totally unethical and bordering on abuse as far as I am concerned.'

There is certainly a place for your comment and I have great sympathy for those people with eating disorders whether they be dangerously over or underweight. However, most comments on this thread are addressing the original question.

You also say: 'People can't really judge anyone because theyre overweight/underweight unless they've been through what these girls are going through themselves.'

However, of course people can judge and have an opinion on people with ED's without having had one themselves. I have an opnion on my Prime Minister here in Britain but I have never been a prime minister. (This example could apply to 1000's of things)

However, I would agree that those that had an ED either now or in the past would often be able to make a more informed comment on the disorder than your average person who has never experienced one. But this is rather different from what you said. (Maybe this is what you meant and I would fully agree with this)

ED's are not about gaining or losing weight they are usually a physical manifestation of a much deeper and psychological issue. It is this issue that needs to be addressed before a person with ED's is able to progress and live a more 'normal' life.

Regards

I am not a guy..shoot me if you wish, but if your doing this just so you can get guys to like you, and so you can get people to tell you to loose weight or you're beautiful, you need help. Being anorexic isn't cool, in fact, IT IS DISGUSTING BEYOND BELIEFE! You only have one chance at life, and if you get sooo skinny, you are not coming back from that grave, there is no savior to raise you back. I honestly say, start thinking of a diet or something, but honestly, that's disgusting..

I dont see anything attractive about an underweight girl. It is seriously disgusting to me. I like women with curves and when women go through that extreme to be very skinny they lose their curves and they lose their sexiness.

In my opinion a lot of the hollywood stars guys love have pretty faces and that is why guys like them. BUT they arent sexy AT all. Most of them have no breasts or anything. They are just a face on sticks and that isnt cute.
