my father is dyslexic so I think I can help. a beginner technique is to simply go in a straight line with your index finger directly under the line of text. see if that helps at all.

I'm a dyslexia teacher and my son is dyspraxic/dysgraphic, so I maybe know how you and your mum feel. You sound pretty clever if you can hide most of it.

The problem with the words moving can be improved if you read on different coloured paper. The expensive thing is to get coloured glasses, but it sounds like you won't be allowed that at the moment.

For now, you could try photocopying onto different shades of paper, like pale pink, pale blue or pale green, or the best thing would be to get some coloured acetate and lay it over what you have to read.

I've seen friends try it - most of the colours make no difference, then suddenly they jump backwards in amazement because they've chosen the colour that works for them, and the words stop moving.

I really hope that might work for you - it's not 100% effective but if you found a colour that would stop the words moving it could make a big difference! Good luck with it and feel free to ask me any other questions.

OK, I think you can find it in craft shops (thin, flimsy stuff for making kid's crafts or wrapping presents). You could get much thicker, stronger stuff if you know someone who does lighting for school plays etc - my ex-boyfriend always had pieces of the stuff hanging around because he was into amateur dramatics. He called them 'gels' but they were thick pieces of acetate in different colours, which were put in front of the stage lights to change their colours.

I'll look on the web and see if I can find any stockists for you.

Good news - it's used for scrapbooking, so if you have a shop near you that stocks paper and tools for scrapbooking, they might have some, or be able to order you some.

Also - professional photo stores (photographers use them), theatre supply stores and music stores which stock gels for DJs. There's lots of info on this on the net!
