Do you agree that to tell a lie is a sin?

woofstock Asked by utopia 8 months ago, 9 answers.

My understanding is that to tell a lie, knowing that you are lying by leaving out key information, in other words lying by omission, is a sin.
And if you continue to sin, knowing that you are sinning, it will cause you to go to hell and burn with the...

devil for eternity.
So what do you think?
Is a person that continues to spread lies and half truths going to hell?
ESPECIALLY if that person is a christian?

I agree to lie is to sin regardless of the outcome of telling the truth. You should always be truthful.

Once a person recoeves Salvation, they no longer have the desire to keep repeating any sin - the Holy spirit dwells within, so the desire then is to strive to please God in all they say and do, I say again strive - so a Christian would not keep repeating the sin.

Wanna bet? Just because you've Been saved or converted doesn't mean temptation is gone. And any Christian who says the devil no longer has power over him is the most likely to fall again. We will sin, we will repent, and we may very well sin again. It is the strive for perfection, the attempt to not sin, that saves us. Now, I'm not saying you can go out and murder and try to stop and be saved. But say you lie here, then maybe you make a bad or profane remark while you're angry there, ect, ect. You will continue sinning in one way or the other.

And the Holy SPirit isn't just something that hangs around all the time, or its effect would become null. Hmans get used to things all too quickly.

Funny how amblessed hardly ever answers a question but always says something about salvation, jesus, god, holy spirit etc. if he is unable to do so.

Anyway, answering your question:
No, I do not agree that lying is a sin. Mostly because there is no such thing as sin. And because in some cases lying can be benifitial for both the lying and the one that the lie is being told to - both can end up happy in the end. Plus, lying can help you avoid unwanted conflicts or situations.

And no, I don't think that you will go to hell for lying. Why? Because I don't believe that hell exists, and because that so called perfect being would have to be reatarded to send you to a place where you will burn for eternity simply because you lied.

That grumpy sixteenth century church reformer Luther, always had a lot to say about lying and how sinful it was and how it made you burn in Hell...

He also wrote an interesting paper that contains the surprising claim that Jesus will promptly forgive the faithful in the case that their lie benefits God and his (reformed) church... so, their 'desire then is to strive to please God in all they say and do'... and that includes a little lying from time to time...

Can't be easy to be a (reformed) christian...
